i ended up with this 97 mach z i guess i'm gonna dial it in for a back up
the thing has some power but heavy as hell what rpms should it run at
its factory triple piped and any other tips on these beasts would but great thanks

I turned mine at 8600 w/stock pipes. Make sure it has the update done to the crank case. They put the oil port in the wrong place from the factory on mine, went thry 2 cranks before I found out about it. My .02

do it

you wouldnt regret finding a zx summit x hmk 151 chassis and some jaws. probably would tirn into your primary sled! mine is still in the ck3 but a lot lighter. powerhouse

mach1 how do i know if the fix has been done mine has about 2500 miles on the od
also what did you do to you to make it rip?
the air box is stupid i was thinking pods but don't know how that will work

mods

i have pods, shaved head, pipes, v force, porting, and a stock rack with clutch 440 jet, center 440, mag 430 at sea level. there is less area in the mag transfer from the mag casting. stock sea level jets are 330s

the pods seem like they would be sweet the airbox is lame on those things did you find a lighter hood the stock one is a brick i made a bar riser i was thinking that it would be good to change the bogies with plastic mine are alum. old school ha ha

the rest

is yours an lt or truly streched to somthin bugger than 136? mine is 144 with a 2" challenger extros and big wheels. i cant remember my gear ratio or clutch, ya know the important stuff. i do know the next thing i need is a shallower helix than stock to keep my rpms up. it wants to load the motor up currently when your standing it strait up in mid wheelie. could be corrected with more gearing but then your loosing on the top. where i ride that i need the top! if i can remember i think i changed to a solid purple drive spring?

plastic

i also used plastic, but big plastic whal bros i think has them in 8" plastic for 20 somthing a piece with a bearing. as for a hood i found a similar hood and chopped it to pieces. its a stock replacement but i chopped the whole guage cluster out and riveted some clear rubbermaid plastic in its place. than made my own windshield out of the unrealistically tall grand touring top shield. just riveted it by itself as one piece instead of three. mounted a temp guage and a motorcycle foglite. carved my seat out a little. i bet the hood saved 20 lbs.

mine is a 144 now but may change? it gonna be a side project should be fun i think it was only reving to 8000 last time i rode it and i pulled the secondary to change out the spring but the helix is serously stuck and i'm still trying to figure out how to get it apart they have some hp though pulls like hell :D

809

seems like every time im at a drag race i see a ck3 chassis winning somthing. pretty sure the motor is a good base for big power

my extros changed my gear ratio being they are smaller. when i took it out the first time it surprised the crap right out of me. i almost had to skip work that day but it was -15 f, although it was intensely fun it was also intensly cold.

Only way to check as far as I know would be to pull the motor down. I run pods on the triple in my ZX chassie, they work good. Lots of stuff you can do to that motor, all depends on how much money you want to spend.

I had a Mach Z also, Fast pipes, Vforce reeds, no airbox just pods, 8800 rpm's. I loved the power. Never had a problem with it.

You want to run that thing around 8600-8700 to be in the power... have polaris primary and cat secondary, works awesome, easy to make your adjustments on...

have seen an 809 done to a 925 make 205 hp on the very modest mod shop dyno, engine was done by split second Ralphy, Alberta canada.

yup I'd believe it! One of Ralphy's 780 that pulled 195 with porting and head work, vforce reeds, stock rack carbs and jaws pipes. Oh yeah, they broke it in on the dyno, it was still making more power every run!

With the stock pipes I believe the max rpm was 7900-8000rpm. The aftermarket pipes all seemed to start at 8600-8800rpm and some around 9000rpm and some even 10200rpm. These engine will make very good power by just being massaged by the right guy. You can big bore them for even more power but cost more money.

wow great info guys thanks so if i got stock pipes it should run 8000 range but with a/m pipes they scream 8600-9600 :Dnice

Just be sure to twist it at the rpm the pipe builder designed the pipe for. They all make different versions of pipes for the same engine, all at different rpm's. Just because it's a Crank Shop or Jaws pipe doesn't mean you need to clutch it for 8800rpm. What version of pipe is it? Trail? Race? Hi-elevation? Big bore? You need to know the specific rpm, so you can base your clutching off that.
