m8 with slp exaust question

Ok, i know there's been lots of talk on slp exaust, but i cant seem to find the answer i'm looking for. I'm thinking about putting an slp exaust y pipe and can on an 08 m8. elevation is about 1800 here in the prairies, and i make 3-4 trips out west a year. do i have to run a boondocker controller at that low of elevation, or can i get away without it? i thought i read somewhere that you needed it under 3000 but can't seem to find anymore info. any help would be appreciated. thanks in advance.
 
I think some sleds were running a little lean at sea level, but for the most part no fuel controller is needed. John Dee over on www.johndee.com has been running his 09 M8 with the full SLP single w/o a fuel controller in the 0-3000 ft. range without any issues. His setup really rips

Now you can probablt squeeze out a few extra HP with a box, but for the $400+ it costs for a box its hardly worth it unless you add more mods.

I have 2000 miles on the M8 with SLP pipe and intake at 1000 ft. elevation. No problems, good power.
 
excellent. thanks alot fellas. did you have to change clutching at all, or i supose it doesn't make that great of a difference?

I'v been running slp pipe kit for 1000 miles, and never messed with the clutching until this week, wow. Changed my weights, swithed belts, and got my clutch balanced. My sled is straight scary now. It pulls so hard, and holds 8150 ish all day. I'v never gotten it over 7800 rpms before this week, and boy was I missing out. My throttle was also loose, and wasn't allowing full throttle, so that helped a bit also. :face-icon-small-hap

What did you do for your clutching? Lots of guys have had trouble getting revs out of there pipe? What elevation you running at?

Dropped weights to 75 gram, switched to 046 belt from 060 , had primary balanced, tuned secondary pre-load. Run anywhere from 2000-5000 feet. I saw 8200 a few times, but settles out right at 8150 as best as I could look with skis in the air and holding on for dear life. Its like a whole new sled to me. I don't know much about clutching, so all my changes were recomended to me by someone else.
 
I'm pretty close to saskatoon as well here, and earlier on in the year i put on the whole pipe kit. I was wondering the same thing, so I called SLP to find out and they said that with EFI it should be fine, I have a 2009, but I think a 2008 is the same, so you should be good!
 
i spoke with adam from slp at the novi michigan snow show last november at great length. when the pipe kit came out they only tested it above 3000' that is why they had the disclaimer. they had no testing below that elevation, and didnt want to give false info and or have customers burning there sleds down for lack of info and testing on their part.

after the first seasons with the pipe kit they had the testing and found, just like the above 3000' testing the M's didnt need a controler unless more mods were done. at this time per slp... it is safe with the pipe kit, vforce reeds and THEIR air intake. if you add ANYMORE, OR DIFFERENT MODS, YOU WILL NEED THE CONTROLER. but.... (always a but) you will need to run premium fuel at all elevations due to pipe design.

with that said, i live in michigan go out west once a season riding mostly here at 0-2200' and out west at all elevations. i will be adding this to my sled over the off season for next year. i am not planning on adding a controler unless, i go for the full performance kit from slp. which is what i want BAD!

I ride out West and in the flat lands. The only thing I do to my set-up is drop heavier weights in the primary when I'm riding the flats. I run 75g weights from 0-3,000 ft and 68g weights from 6-9,000 ft.

My recommendation is to drop a fuel pressure gauge on there (I got mine from Bikeman Performance) and verify you have good fuel pressure (around 45 psi?). If it is low, then you need a fuel controller.

Otherwise, no issues and the sled flat out rips.
