M8 vs M1000 final decision

If you are riding in deep the 1000 will be your choise. But you MUST put full pipe and fuel box in it. Stock 1000 -09 doesn't work at our elevation (below 3000ft) - it needs clutching, pipe and fuel box. Pal put full SLP pipe and bd box and sled was completely different after that. It still needs clutching - can't wait he'll get it dealed :)

go for an 2010 m8 if yer not going to throw mods at the machine. Outta the box at 160 hp. as compared to the 09 at what 148hp? the 09 m1000 is at 162 hp from the crate but outwieghs the m8 by 30#'s

i missed the reliable question.get the 8.and since your not interested in getting the highmark and stuck on a 153 get the 8,ligher can be funner.another plus is the 2010 m8 is worth something if you decide to sell in the near future.a 09 1000 would be harder to sell.you would loose $2000 in resale value for a year old sled and another $2000 when you take it home.something to think about:)

I thought it was down to a 20 lb difference now because of the can?

I guess you should explain why the stock 1000 will not work at 3000ft when a stock 800 will...all you should have to do is change weights in the primary. there should be a weight chart on one of the shock towers. at that low of elevation you should be making more power with more air to motor then we are at 8000-10000ft.

my 09 m1 flat ripped at 2-3000ft,

The m8 seem to hold there value a little better but a 09 m1000 isn't taking the hit the 07-08 did and when you can buy one for 8500 theres not much to loose leaving the showroom floor. I expect to loose 2000 from new to a year later on any sled.
