M8 steering

Did anyone ever come to a conclusion on wjy the steering was so much tighter on the 2009 m's? It doesnt bother me to much but my will be riding my old 09 this year and told me that i need to fix the steering before she rides this winter. I put all new rod ends on it last year and it seemed to help a little but it still is not as easy as my 07 m was

09 models have tighter steering radius. They changed spindles and the part where tie rod is connected in spindle is shorter. You can change older spindles and steering will be slower but easier.

I'm sure there's people who like to change their old spindles to new ones :)

Or maybe just lowering the front bolts of the rear skid to the lower holes (looking from inside the tunnel) would remove enough weight from the skis to make them turn easier?

I plan to do this before the snow flys................

interested to see what you think of it, I havent seen it done to a 09 yet.
I have a wheelie problem and this would only make it worse, might work for you though, also may make it unstable on the trail if that matters.

Is anyone making an aftermarket kit to fix the front end steering issues of the 09? HOlz? ???

Be nice to lighten it up and fix the stiff/tight steering.

WyoBoy1000, I have read a lot about the topic and it's something I plan to at least try. My theory (I always have a theory) is that with my new Powder Pros (which are prone to darting on the trail) if I lighten the ski pressure a bit I may be able to kill three birds with one stone.

Make the steering a little easier, have real powder skis and eliminate the darting of the Powder Pros and third, make the front end of the sled a little lighter and more prone to wanting to dance in the powder.

PS: I hear there will be a completely new Simmon's ski released in January.

Ball joints!

Check your ball joints on your steering linkage. If you take them off you should be able to move them with your hands easily. Seen a brand new sled last year that you had to use tools to move the ball joints with them removed. They put new ones on and it steered as easy as the M7s.

ditto on the cleaning and inspecting. I actually had to take front end apart, reemed the alum part of bulkhead so everything was free and easier. Spindles weren't even greased

It will be interesting to see what you think. I'm thinking about trying the new AC skis they are 2lbs lighter, deeper keel and wider. but I never had a problem anyway. One thing is for sure on my sled I don't need any more tranfer.

Any idea what the dual spring set is worth from holz??

SPDFREEK

can't remember, but it seemed like it was around $50
