Polaris owner looking to get back on a cat. Polaris asssualt compleat disaster for me! I have owend a 06 m7. So am familiar with chassis. Would like a few opinions on what to buy between 09 m8 or m1000. Thanks
If I would have had the money, I probably would have bought the M1000, but I got my M8 for like $2700 less than the dealer wanted for the M1000 ...
I've had limited seat time on the M1000's, and never ridden newer than an 08' M1000 ..... so my obseravations might be outdated ..... but quite frankly, my 900 RMK felt easier to throw around than the 08' M1000 I rode ... given my 900 is set up pretty well, but still ... most people on here say that it is night-and-day difference between the pre-09' and 09' sleds ....
Given how much I've grown to absolutley LOVE my M8 in the month I've owned it, I can see how an 09' M1000 might be a pretty good deal, especially for larger riders ..
BUT ...
This M8 sure did very well for me in the 4-5' of fresh baseless pow and Rabbit Ears a week and a half ago. I was _VERY_ impressed with it. Keep in mind it was hauling a 300-lb rider around and the only times it was getting stuck was when the rider wasn't paying attention to what he was doing .... I was INCREDIBLY impressed with how manueverable the sled was, and a couple of my riding buddies commented on the fact that they were somewhat surprised I was taking a BONE stock M8 the places I was getting it ..... Now given, the M1000 would have done the same with ease....
IMO, it's really a trade off .... the M8's are a a little lighter and IMO easier to carve with than the M1000's are (at least the 08' and earlier M1000's), or my 900 RMK with all the mods I've done to it for that matter even .... what the M1000's give up to the M8 in the manueverability department, they assuredly make up for in the power department. Those things really run strong and pull hard .... they're pretty impressive in that respect.
Overall, maybe I should have bought the M1000 since I'm such a lardass .... but the M8 sure left a big smile on my face after riding in the deep pow like it did ... I'm not upset I went with the M8 at all. And it's not like I can't get a little more power (turbo *cough cough*) if I really think it necessary ....
My $0.02 from a former Polaris guy who has limited seat time on the new Cat sleds.
