M8 2009 performance info

Just wanted all to know about the performance of the new M8.
Riding at 9500/10500ft.
D&D shim kit,D&D can,65grm wts,tan D&D spring primary clutch, stock secondary.

Very steep climb at 10200 7820 rpms 30/35mph track speed. Other sleds that made it had to side hill to get up.All day it out performed all ski doos. This my wifes sled I ride a M1000. Just wanted to let you know that I think the M8 is wild to ride,and have fun on.

My M1000 has a few mods,not much comparesion.But it shouldn"t.

Bountyhunter's M8 is a 162". It runs VERY well for an 800. I was suprised by well it performs over the stock sleds. Way funner sled to ride than our 07 M1000's.

Bounty Hunter I am glad your new M8 is working well. Your weights still surprise me big time. I have the same sled with a 162 and slp pipe kit and mine will run 7800-7900rpm in a steep climb at 10K with the same primary spring you are running and 69.5G weights.

Do you have a part number for this spring? i've looked at d&ds web site and only see the white spring which is 135/330 is this the spring your running?

Is 30/35 mph track speed a little low on an M8? This is just a question. I have my M7 turning 40 mph at 9000ft and my wifes 08 XP also turns 40 mph. I thought an M8 would have a little more track speed.

Yes 30-35 is way slow! 40 is good but a well tuned M8 should spin 45+mph.

You know, while track speed is a usefull tool in some comparisons, I think it has to be one of the most overrated things on this site. I've seen plenty of sleds that had great track speed but didn't climb or go through the snow well at all. There's way more to clutching and tuning than trackspeed.

I have a 09 M8 162 with slp pipe and today I tried 68G weights again with my D&D 150/330 spring and I just don't like that light of weight. I went from the speedwerx 69.5 which run heavy, like a cat 71, and the 68's pull so much less. I guess every sled is different but I still think these M8's, even with the slp pipes, like to be loaded, it brings out the true power from what I have seen. Also 30-35 sounds way low to me also, I was seeing around 40-42 today on a steep climb at 9500ft. One other interesting thing I noticed was that my RPM hardly went up at all and I went down almost 2G in weight. After messing with mine several times this year I am a true believer in loading the engine heavier and running the stiffer primary springs, 320-340 finish rate range.

As what farmer said, I never looked at track speed before , If you make the hill great. Plus you pass other sleds going up not to worry.

Interesting, What weights do you run?. Also at 95/98 I run more like 8000rpms. But at 10500 I am right on for the dyno sheet.,

Proably if I ran a bigger spring and a pipe it would be different. I am running a stock spring amd no pipe.
