M7 vs M8?

I found a good deal on an 07' M8 and was wondering how it would compare to an 05' M7? I think I recall reading that the M8's were maybe a little slower than the m7? How does the reliability compare? What are the differences between the two?

The M8 I'm looking at has 4000 miles but is stock except for a y pipe and boss seat. Too many miles?

Thanks!

Mileage to me is only a number. How was it ridden? Maintained? What has been replaced? Any know issues with it?

i wouldnt consider a sled with 4k miles on it even it it looked mint, just screams im gonna have a buncha problems soon, lol.....

the 05 m7 had a diamond drive leak causing some failures but they fixed that pretty quick. the 07 has reverse but i dont know that thats a good thing arctic cat started making there own diamond drives in 07 and added reverse to it, the diamond drives had a problem with the gears welded to the shafts was bad, but with 4k miles on it they probably got that figured out once or twice!

the main difference is the throttle responce, the 8 will have a lot more getup right when you push the throttle, the 7 will want to be pinned or off the throttle to run happy.

they got pretty solid diamond drives in the 05-06 bdx made them for cat these years. motor is only a few hp less then the 8. however if your going to add mods the 8 will open up a lot more.

id put my reliable factor money on the 7 especially if it has less miles, for these two years.

I actually haven't looked at it yet because it is a couple of hundred miles away, but I think I can get it for $3500 without the boss seat. He said the diamond drive is serviced twice a year so I think he keeps on maintenance pretty well. Is the chassis and body the same between the two?

If the sled you are looking at is the one in the swap, it looks really clean. 4000 miles on an M isn't that bad. The cranks on these sleds holds up really well, in fact I believe SLP has yet to see one come in for repair. The 1000 is a different story. I you buy it I would put a new top end in it. Pull the motor to do it and check all the hoses and wiring underneath the motor. Replace what looks worn and wrap everything with wire loom. The Diamond Drive is what it is, some go forever, so go after a few 100 miles. Any M DD can go at anytime and I wouldn't use that as a yay or nah on buying the sled. Little things go wrong with high mileage sleds, but if you are mechanical type person and take care of your stuff you will be fine. I put about 2000 miles on a sled every year and I'm still riding my 07. It's hands down the best sled I've ever owned.

I have both of these Sled hands up I like my 07 M-8 the best more power and they both handle about the same my 05 M-7 is lighter you can’t go wrong with either but I like the M-8 the best. both are very reliable sleds but if you want power go with the 8 not the 7

hey tylerstc thats my sled dont you dare buy it!!!! i saw it first!!!!! just kiddin dude im in bc so id have to drive a bunch its a purty good deal though it doesnt look in too rough shape if i was around there id snatch it up in a snap Go for it:mad:

My dad and buddy both just bought 07 M8's and I have an '05 M7. In a drag race I can beat my dad by a hair and just barely lose to my buddy by a hair. I'm guessing this is mainly a weight issue as my dad has 30 or 40 lbs on me and my buddy is 10lbs or so lighter than me; but both M8's do get the jump out of the hole with their low-end power advantage.

Haven't got a good chance to go head to head climbing anything yet; so I can't tell you who will edge out who....

Also the M8's are stock whereas my M7 has an RKT head and porting; so I'm sure that helps me some....

I have both in the trailer (05 M7/07 M8). I love the M7 but the only gripe I had with it was the lack of grunt on the bottom end. It ran really good but never felt as good as it ran until you lined it up next to another sled. The M8 has the grunt and still runs good on the top end. My chose by far. Both are stock sleds with the same size track. Both have been outstanding as far as reliability. No problems what so ever they both just keep running great.
