m7 vs d7 vs rev8

D7

Just upgraded to a 2007 D7 this year from a similar set up as yours, a 1999 RMK 600 136. I really like the dragon, however it took a few days to get used to it. It boondocks and side hills with ease, about the only complaint is that the stock running boards suck! Went riding with some guys on 800 skidoos Xp's and hung with them just fine and used a lot less gas too. I dont think you will be disappointed if you go with the D7 and it has reverse just in case you park too close to the person in front of you and they dont want to move.

I am constantly entertained by Bloggers who ask these kind of wide open questions. I would hope that one poor soul doesn't make a decision based on what COULD be an armchair snowmobilers uneducated opinion or someone's secretly steroid induced 600 cc, what ever brand it may be, whoopin up on some half witt's 800 cc that has a bad belt and is 500 R's short. There are so many variables when comparing even sled side by side I ride an 09 800 RMK 155. When ever we get with a different group of guys on different brands, I always ask to test their sled. Seat time is the only way to base a true opinion on a sled. I would ride a Cat any day and could switch back n fourth al day long and not miss a beat. I think that if someone gave me an XP, I would learn to love it, but for now, they seem to have a very large upper hand on my ridin habits. I can not form an eduvated opinion on a Yami because I have spent but 10 minutes in a trashed hard pack meadow. The power seemed good, but they all rip on a flat hard surface. The bottom line is turn the computer off and get out and test ride all of what you are interested in. I am very dissapointed that I haven't ran into a 2010 M8. I am anxious to ride one because I am not impressed with the 07-09 M8 motor. I had an 07 with a speedwerx pipe, y and can and was not impressed. I jumped on a demo 09 162 M8 2 weeks ago and, again, was highly dissapointed. Good luck in whatever you decide on from the Half witt Hot Shot...

Good comments, good advice.

x2. I would still lean on the D7 side of the argument. The 800's do have some top end problems and that is no secret, but the 700s seem to hold up well.

The reason why the d7's are more pricey is because they are more desirable. All the machines are good sleds, and all can be made fun. None of us, or very few leave them all stock, so pick your poison.

Probably depends on who you ask...

The D7 didn't come out until 2007, the '05-'06 700 IQ is not a very desirable machine IMO. The M7 had been replaced by the M8 by 2007. If I had $5500-6000 to spend I would buy the M8 over the D7. You simply can not buy a D7 for M7 money.

The ONLY reason I would buy the Poo would be if I had lots of trails to ride in order to get to my riding areas. So, depending on your needs, the D7 may be more desirable. The rough trail ride is substantially better. Once in the steep and deep, it is a total wash, all rider from there on out.

Sounds like the OP has some opportunites to ride both, excellent advice to do so. It's not like there is a wrong answer.

If you have rode a 07+ rmk anything, you know it handles good in the steep and deep....AND on the trail. Make no mistake, they are NOT trail sleds.

Well, I have and honestly, for me, the M-Cat rides a lot better. The first day I rode an M7 I felt immediately at home. The first time I rode an '07 Raw I just couldn't get used to it. I really did not like it. The second day on the same sled I figured it out and had some more confidence. I could feel a difference in the rough, but still prefer the M in the steep and deep.

I have also read way too many negative things about the WE shocks, the Cats come with Fox.

I honestly think Poo has been riding on former glories. The Edge sleds were the best in their time by a long shot. The Raw chassis is great but they have so many quality issues now. I don't care for the poor quality plastics and crappy front bumper on the '07 IQ's either. There are just a lot of detail things I wouldn't accept in the face of a superior competitors machine. I would ride a D7, but only if it was the same or less money than an M7.
