m7 power gain

hi i am a 17 year old that just got an 06 m7.
I put a jaws can on it and thats about it, I was wondering what is the best way to gain power without a turbo?
I was thinking jaws big dogs twins and a jaws y-pipe, just let me know what u think might be bad or better?
Thank you

Putting a head on it will give you the most noticable gains. Single pipes do not produce much gain on the m7s and twins are supposed to be hard to tune. Im thinkin a powderclaw will be a noticable improvement also. Timing key will give you improved throttle responce and about 1 horsepower to degree (I think), plus theyre cheap and easy to install.

http://www.2strokeheads.com/tech.htm for the head

and the cheapest and best don't really go together. I like Boondocker boxes and they can be found pretty cheap in the swap. Your sled uses the same box as the M6, M8 and 900 EFI. Pure Logic and attitude are probably the easiest to use but in my experience they are more prone to fail due to water getting in them. Both company's use a plastic box made in Belgrade MT and it's garbage. DynoJet makes a nice box as well but it's a little more complicated to setup than the others but probably less effort after it's done.

Ok thank you well I'm gonna REALLY look into that head and maybe twins
so since I'm gonna end up buying a fuel controler should I maybe look at intake?
Do u no anyone that's good at installing the heads?
And is it easy to tweek the boxes or do I need professional help?

Put the head on yourself, there's a couple threads around here with some good info about how to do it. The box isn't that hard, it's much easier to tune with an EGT gauge, the chances of a burn down with twins are pretty hi for a new tuner with no gauges. You will have to learn the box sooner or later if you are going to mod. If you go with a Boondocker box you can get the box with the white TPS wire and hook it to the servo motor for the powervalves to remove or add fuel when the valves open. That is the easiest way to make twins run consistently day to day. If not you will chase your tail trying to get the fuel right when the powervalves open because as the temp and altitude change so will the timing on the valves. An intake is a lot a weight loss in the M and probably worth it. If you don't know what you are doing though you are probably better off finding people that do before you go crazy modding your sled, the most reliable sled is usually the stock one.

Improvements

If you just got a new M7 I would probably vent side panels and run it with your can and see what you think youight be surprised how good they come stock. If you still want some more power go with a new head and do the work yourself or have your dad help you.

Stock M7

Like bighoe said the most reliable sled is usually a stock sled and that is the truth from my experience. What sled did you come off of or is this your first sled. My M7 is stock with the exception of the can boss seat side vents and snow eleminators and it runs great. Try your M7 stock I think you might be surprised.

Well I'm pretty sure my old stock m6 with a Jaws can out hillclimbed and sidehilled a STOCK orange and black m7 near stampede pass......or was that just the rider? Well see next season biggdaddy

Don't believe everything you hear.

The RKT head will improve your performance if you use it with the stock single pipe. Even Kelsey will tell you it won't work with twins. Personally I think the jaws twins are the best performance move you could make along with clutching it for them. They will work without a fuel management box but the box will allow you to regulate the fuel in different rpm ranges that will take the twins to the next level. There was nothing that will touch it in the m7 with single pipe.

This is my opinion. I suggest you check around more before you jump.

Are you sure you don't need a fuel box for the twins because so far my dad and all of his friends say that I do need one,
I'll make sure to check around some more before I spend my money
so jaws twins and a clutch kit and my m7 is ready because I want some descent power gain because my riding group is making a trip to Montana late next season and if you have any more suggestions let. Me know

It would depend on elevation but you can go here http://www.jawsperformance.com/indexddd.html

If you are on a 2006 then you would probably need one unless you had your ecu remapped to 2005 specs. Personally, put a boondocker box from ebay on it and learn how to tune it, you will achieve a lot more performance on any m7 with fuel management and the boondocker box has the best setup for adjusting at specific rpm's.

If you want pull and go just stick with the rkt head and good clutching. You can get a new billet head or have your stock one recut as well. I have a rkt cut head on mine and I run slp twins as well. The twins make power for sure but they also make heat which will drive a guy crazy but I kept with em cuz when they were right, well good times! As for fuel boxes I like the Boondocker box, it was easy to tune for me and has lots of adjustments and options.
