m1000 piston melted need advice

Deto and running lean are two different things, deto is pre-ignition caused by low octane fuel igniting too soon, basically running like a diesel and igniting the fuel by compressing it.

Detonation is caused by pre-ignition due to too much heat for the octane you are running. It can be cause by either running lean or by low octane fuel...both of which factor into the cylinder camber temp being too high for the octane.

My sled was slightly lean, which led to detonation which led to a seize because of the detonation.

It was pto side and on the front exhaust side

PTO side is typically a bit more rich.

So, I'd say you have an air leak on that side. I'd pressure test.

Ok got done wit work early grabbed all my parts did all new top end. Remand cylinder cleaned everything up took out injectors cleaned em checked the wires all seems tight and no bare sports lubed her up good did a premix on 91 octane fired it up runs smooth took clutch off did a poor man check on that crank seal sprayed carb cleaner at it while it was running and it didn't change any engine tone so I was told that if it was suck in air that could tell by that test I also gave her a couple pulls wit the injects on but not in boot and they both had good spray wtf am I missing I ordered dual koso egts with water temp sensor gonna be here tomorrow when it was running cuz all the oil on everything I noticed the y pipe to expansion pipe was leaking and the expansion pipe has a bunch of small leaks were pipe is like tack together don't know if that means anything gonna get new donut tomorrow and I think I got a buddy wit a stock pipe other than that how long should u warm up sled before ride I let it like 8 to 10 min sometime is that too long could I have overheated it by doin that I other ran the mofo like 4 times since I owned it

You should have inspected it before you bought it, I had one do that and I kept riding it another 50 miles and it still ran pretty good.

The fact he had a bd box means it had mods, otherwise there is no reason to have it. It takes at least a can and a y pipe to need mods. Plus if it gets that hot the sled is built to shut down if it was stock to prevent that.

I'm 95% sure, unless you inspected it when you bought it, that he fu qd you!

Just make sure you heat cycle it a few times. (Let it idle trek the temp light comes on, shut down, cool, do again,

Before that when filing with coolant, lift the nose in the air, tip side to side, and get air out so is full of coolant.

Finally got a chance to get some miles on took it to the UP for the day did 175 miles didn't blow it up yet koso water temp and egts on it all stayed in good shape gotta watch that lean spot bout 5200 to 5800 they can get up in the 12s just can't ride behind the pokies again thanks to all with your input hope this thing stays running good. Ah ya and now the DD started Leaking outta the gasket I think should be as bad as the last episode

m 100

couple of thoughts on your motor issue.

1 out of the box when this sled was new quite a few 1000 went down with piston looking like yours. the 1000 were very lean from the get go. so bad fuel, timid riders running a low trail speeds, luck of the draw in buying, any modification............so your unstock muffler in any brand was often the death of these sleds.

2, so in the past to get around that we ran super unleaded / unoxegenated fuel, put on fuel regulator and run up the fuel pressure, check the pistons for wash, if you don't have any piston wash............tow it back to the truck. Boonie box........can work if you fool with them and are careful.

3 around the mtns we geared them down so you were't riding them at low low mid range throttle with laboring clutching, coasting down the trial at 35mph.

4. most of these m1000 go down at modest speeds with 1/5th throttle openings. Lean lean lean there.

5 the cans and pipes on those 1000 do little but cause lean running and no hp increase just more noise. So figure out how to add some fuel. Check around the local cat shops that have been in bussiness awhiile and find someone that was dealing with this problem. I doubt you need to chase an engine issue, you just need more gas.
