has anyone weighed the stock hood with everything on it? I just installed a carbon fibre hood from c3 powersports(will throw up some pics later today) and I wanted to weigh the stock one before it went to it's new owner. he showed up as I was pulling it off and never I got the chance. just curious as to how much weight I lost. the new hood weighs 5lb, no light, no gauge. I also installed frogskins for the first time and it was fairly easy. anyone run these last year and have them come off? they are VERY sticky. also does anyone know of a small tach that I can run on the bars?:beer;:beer;

Heads up, maybe you already know, but anything older than an 09 you will need a resistor kit from Fastlane to eat up extra amperage. Otherwise you run the risk of burning up ecm. Even on my 09 m8 I put a piaa type light on the handlebars for insurance.

thanks for the heads up but I got er under control, got the 100w resistor so should be alright. :beer;

Just set mine on my postal scale and it is 15.8lbs. Only thing off of it is the stock ducting. My Mountain Fit is 5lbs. 10lbs is all you get.........

we are talking about a stock hood with ducting, stickers, gauge, headlight, vents, insulation and everything else

that is correct. I dumped a chunk of weight and the new hood looks sweet!

so does anyone know of a small tach that works well?

Ok, maybe 20lbs if you are real lucky..........I was actually surprised by the stock hood weight. I thought it was much heavier than it really is. I bought a brand new Mountain Fit with a bunch of venting that I don't think I will waste my time with now knowing the stocker is 15lbs with insulation and air ducting out of. That's retaining the lights and gauge. Might just throw it up for sale.

stock hood bare is close to 10lbs. I am going to mount my gauge to the handle bars as well as a small but efficient headlight, then I can see the gauge and where I'm turning at night. its amzing how much better these sleds run with fresh air under the hood.

05 and 06 m chassis need a resistor, but the 07-current dosent need one. they changed the ecu so you dont need the resistance. when i weighed my stocker it was right under 27 lbs. that was with everything still in it, and the pns back in it. i think someone else put 26 so we were close.

Hey blackcloud, Do you know this for a fact? Please explain, i don't want to buy a 65 dollar resistor if i don't need to! thanks

As far as the ECU goes, YES, it is a fact.

The question that has been recently brought up relates to the stator, and how decreasing needed amperage could damage the stator. This doesn't make sense to me & no one has been able to explain why a lower load would damage it. I'm not completely dismissing it as a possibility, but I find it hard to believe & I just don't understand how it happens.

I have run every sled we've had since 07 with no lights,but with a factory gauge, maybe the gauge is what is saving our sleds, I don't know, but I have WELL over 10k on sleds with no lights as well as a number of other folks I know and none of us have seen any electrical issues.

btw nothing changed from 08 to 09, if there was an issue (which I doubt) would be with all of them, not just before 09.
