M10 air shock in Mtn Tamer

Hi all

I have been giving thought to my saggy bumper on my nytro because of the air shock in the rear of my 174 updated version of my Mountain Tamer on Ice Age rails. I decided to ask some of my educated sled friends if a coil shock would be the way to go because it is consistant at every elevation.
I dont know if its just me or my shock but after a not very long ride the *** of my sled gets soft and saggy. Either way doesn't matter...... I have found ( loaned to me by a wicked builder) an M10 rear air shock. I had originally found a fox varriable rate remote res coil out of an M10 but why not go for the big dawg! The shock is more consistant than a fox float and suposto be the bomb in the M10 skid. So.... I am going to swap out the shocks and take an afternoon to see if it is going to make a difference.

I only posted this thread because I think it is an interesting
thing to try to improve on if if I can.

I realize that the valving may be way off... I think if that is the case then I will give the fox coil a shot because it has quite a range of adjustability.

I would appreciate feed back on this topic and thoughts but please make sure they are constructive. And please post if you have tried a combo that you found improved any aspect of the skid.

I will post my results

Cheers

Lee

Strike one....... Air bag on the shock is too fat to allow for smooth movement without rubbing. I'm going to try to get ahold of the fox coil in the morning. I'm hoping I at least get to try something out!!

I have an email into Timbersled for a price and availability on the Zbros but I can't get a price and availability is limited. Minimum is 3 weeks and thats IF there are any available after present orders are filled.

I'm guessing there are a few more out there with similar issues.

Is the original shock you took out rebuildable? If so a revalve could really wake things up, also you could probably rig up a reservoir/piggyback type shock if you attach the reservoir to somewhere that it won't get caught up in the linkage and connect it with some braided hose (similar to zbros front shocks).
I had an older edge chassis that I did this to with some Fox zero pros and it worked great. Everything cleared the linkage, the reservoir was mounted in a safe place where it couldn't get damaged easily and I got the ride quality of a piggy back style shock.

I have a rear shock lined up that is a piggy back resevoir fox coil shock that my friend took out of his M10. He has gone to the air shock in his.

As for your other question, yes it is rebuildable and Tyler Earl has told me that Chris Burandt (sorry about the spelling) has done some wicked revalving work on the Fox air Floats...... But that doesn't address the problem of that particular style of shock sacking out and changing pressure because of elevation or temp....... even though they say it doesn't....... it does!

The M10 air shock has a large diamiter external "bag" that just bumps a touch but a touch is too much. A coil shock will clear and shouldn't be a problem. Hoping to find out tonight.

I am sure that a coil shock is going to prove to be a more reliable, consistant, better ride........... maybe. lol Otherwise I'm wasting time......but I'm getting to spend time with my sled:face-icon-small-hap
