M series or Nytro????

for search and rescue id havve to go nytro, its like a car and way better on gas and oil then a 2 stroke,

This winter I bought three new Yamahas, all of which were my first sleds I have ever owned.

What is of note though is just how different the 2010 Nytro MTX "SE" is from the 2009 Nytro MTX.

Riding the two sleds side by side this winter showed the new "SE" to be a MUCH NICER sled than last year's Nytro.

All around simply more capable of doing anything I asked of it. Though I only got around 500 miles on it this winter as our snow was poor to say the least, it gave me NO problems whatsoever. If finances allow, I will probably sell the 2009 and get a 2011 SE to replace it.

I realize you've made the decision, but I thought I'd offer my two cents:

People keep talking about reliability comparisions. We had two m-series sleds, and I never once fouled a plug. I always changed them at the beginning of the season just for good measure, but never needed to in midseason. Sure, the suspension bushings wore quickly, but that is cheap to repair, and preventative maintence.

I actually prefer the 4-stroke world to 2-strokes, but we have two dragons, mostly because of the weight.

Also of consideration on a topic like this, is what is the sled that most of your members ride on their own time. It would be nice to have sleds that were as close to that as reasonably possible, so when on a search/rescue, your riders are not learning quirks that a different chassis has.

I think you made the right call for your intended use, by selecting the M-series for your purchase.

So it looks like we are getting 2-09 and 2-10 M8s!:face-icon-small-hap:face-icon-small-hap:face-icon-small-hap:face-icon-small-hap So lucky for the people we are looking for!

I'm thinking you made the right decision. I will say I have not ridden the '10 Nytro with the updates but I can't immagine it's really that much better as it didn't shave off that much weight and it's still making the same amount of power.

I've got a '10 M8 and a '08 Nytro (with all the common upgrades except boost) in my garage. The Nytro is for sale and hasn't been touched since I bought the M8. The Nytro was pretty pathetic in truly steep and deep terrain in stock form. Once I dumped $1500 into it for upgraded skid and track it got better but still not great. And when you get it stuck, it's rarely a 1 person job to get it out, not easily or quickly anyways. Even after the upgrades on the Nytro it still does not go 1/2 the places that the M goes in stock trim. The M is so much more capable and nimble. I'm less tired at the end of the day when riding the M.

Reliability may not be on par with the 4 stroke but overall it sounds like the A/C is a really trustworthy sled.
