I am back after a long dry spell of no snow. We had some great snow out of this storm but wet. I drove from my house to Yuba Pass today and might need the tracks on soon. Not much snow down low so the 07 road is going to be a mess. We are at 6,850 here so up top from here should be great. Right now It's raining here. Big bummer. See what tomorrow brings?

Ride now ... forecasts say no more storms after this one and above 35F daytime highs for next 7 days

What forecast are you looking at because I am seeing a chance of snow off/on over the next week.

For Truckee elevation 6400 feet

9 FEB

Periods of rain and snow. Temps nearly steady in the mid to upper 30s. Winds SSW at 10 to 15 mph. LOW 34F

10FEB

Light snow and some fog during the morning will give way to some clearing during the afternoon. High 44F. Winds light and variable. Chance of snow 40%.
LOW 29

11 FEB

Cloudy. High 46F. Winds SW at 5 to 10 mph LOW 32

12 FEB

Cloudy skies with a few showers later at night. Low 37F. Winds SW at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 30%.

13 FEB

Considerable cloudiness with occasional rain showers. Low 36F. Winds SW at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 50%.

14 FEB

Cloudy skies. Low 33F. Winds SW at 5 to 10 mph.

15 FEB

Rain or snow showers in the evening will give way to partly cloudy skies late. Low near 30F. Winds SW at 10 to 20 mph. Chance of precip 60%.

16 FEB

A few clouds from time to time. Low 28F. Winds SW at 5 to 10 mph.

17 FEB

Mostly cloudy skies. Low 29F. Winds SW at 5 to 10 mph.

Using 5F decrease for every 1000 feet above 7000 feet will put you for snow 7000-8000 feet and above.
Would be more comfortable saying above 8000 feet for snow since daytime highs for all week is projected to be over 40F.

mammoth @6400 feet is forecasted to have warmer temps by a few degrees than Truckee for the same time period.

Mammoth Forecast 8 FEB SAT 930 PST

Sat 9:50pm

Mammoth Pass reports 1.22 inches of precipitation so far and less than Yosemite. Temperature at 8200ft is 36 degrees, while at the main lodge it is 30. Snow level about 8400. Main Plume is nearing the north coast now and will be moving in shortly over the north coast. Precip rates will pick up after midnight tonight with another inch and a half of QPF expected. Snow levels are verifying a little lower than forecast…..so it is now possible that some 3 to 5 inches may fall over the next 24 hours at elevations above 8000 feet by Sunday Afternoon.

After this storm…. the storm door closes except for a few minor systems. Both 6 to 10 and 8 to 14 outlooks look drier then normal….

Next update in the morning……

I have found NOAA at 7200ft and higher is more appropriate for our local riding. That along with Open Snow.....Daily Tahoe Report by Bryan Allegretto. He is local and his forecast is by far the most accurate for this region.

That is great ! I really want it to snow because I took a week off vacation this coming weekend specifically to go sledding the entire week.

I typically ride Mammoth and ride right now it is 40F there in town and raining.

Any links would be great cause the only times Ive ridden Tahoe is around the lake, and just off Boreal Truckee area on the north side ... so I use the 6500 foot forecast similar to the levels at those locations.

Im calling the sled rental places plus any grooming reports I can find to see whats going on.

Mammoth is not renting sleds nor grooming because until there is 18 inches of snow by McDonalds.

So ... can you please post the link for Daily Tahoe Report by Bryan Allegretto so I can see going to the TRACKMAN"S sledding grounds !

Yep, Bryan is by far the most accurate. He nails it just about every time.

Rained here all night and is still raining lightly. This is my back yard Coppens Meadow, Lots of water. The snow level looks to be just above me.

Steve:

Looks like a Waverunner would come in handy. Doesn't look like these shi**y conditions are going to end. Kinda lame.

When Bryan was doing his own thing on Tahoe Weather Discussion he was more accurate.

The last two seasons, he--and every other forecaster-- seem to miss more than they hit.

Looks like a some great SLURPEE riding !

It is kind of fun until you stop in it and sink !

07 Road

Here the scoop on the 07 road. There is no snow at the parking lot. First pic. There is no snow at Perazzo Meadow turn off. Second pic. After Perazzo you need to park and ride. I am waiting for the to rain to stop at my house to ride. Maybe tomorrow. Looks great up top as we see from Murph's Post. If any ones coming up tomorrow i need some one to ride with. Stop by. Thanks Track Man.

Have you been east of your place on the road yet? Curious what jackson meadows res and beyond look like.

I still need to figure out exactly where you are. Me and some LTS regulars still have a 12 pack of corona with your name on it for all the snow reports.

I kept thinking I'd see you in the parking lot or on the road again but these last two seasons have been uh.......a little light in visits.:face-icon-small-dis

Much appreciations for your pictures and information! We are driving up from Chico tomorrow to ride and none of us know that area. I'll have a long trailer that holds 4 sleds, and my buddies will have two more trucks with standard trailers...with a possibility of a 4th truck/trailer...any recommendations on where to park/unload? Everyone is an experienced and talented rider with the exception of my 12 year old son (he has lots of riding experience and knows his limitations). Any suggestions and advice would be much appreciated!!!
