Lower Max RPM to be expected during break in?

I'm about halfway through the break in on the Matryx Slash 850 - but doing some short 3 second WOT pulls, the sled didnt feel as strong as my old 800. Looked at the RPM and it was maxing at 7400 or so on trail. Is this to be expected with the additional fueling/oiling caused by the ECU? I pulled over and checked deflection, that wasnt the issue. Going to check throttle cable today when I go through everything - anything else I should look into?

Were you riding full speed on the trail or just punching the throttle to see the spike in rpm? Also what altitude?

I optioned it with high altitude clutching - so should be correct unless Polaris dropped ball on that. Was at 10-11k feet

I was running between 40-45 on trail with a few spikes above that. Was on trail when I held the throttle down for a few seconds but was focused on max rpm not max speed. Max rpm stopped climbing after a couple of seconds at around 7400

Both the rentals we rode were a little low the first hundred miles.

Black spots on the snow and all.

Solid with a few more miles on them now.

Maybe check the primary spring? My 2020 khaos went bad the first season and my wife’s 2021 went bad last season. Replaced with slp blue pink good to go. Shouldn’t be an issue that new but sounds like same symptoms

They didn’t break, just sacked out when they compress you could see they were starting to rub spider.

I actually have some 64’s sitting in my workshop from the old 800. I will try swapping them in - thanks everyone

I think you have something wrong with your clutching. I was pulling full RPM on non-prem and chewing good. Lots of smoke but engine was running good at WOT

This would explain why your RPM is low at that elevation.

And as mentioned above but to reiterate, 850 RMK's all come with 68's unless you get a sea level option. But don't quote me on that.

He shouldn’t be that low though, it should still pull 7900 or so right? I would try another spring if you have one handy. Checked your belt adjustment?

It sure feels like in 2022, adjustable clutch weights on stock sleds would be appropriate. As WHM posted there is a Polaris published need to change weights based on riding zone already. Since every aftermarket clutch kit has adjustable weights of some variety, OEMs should evolve and offer this adjustability from the factory.

Primary spring looked fine - no major issues visually apparent (although what would I look for)?. It did have 68’s so I swapped 64’s in. Gonna order some slp adjustables. Will take it out this weekend and see if there is any improvement
