Low To Mid Range Drone.....Ughh!

Well, it happened to me.....

End of a great day and just heading up the trail to the truck. Slow down and work my way around some trees and the engine drops the power down and all I hear is a dull drone.

Blipped the throttle and it cleared up and then came back again. Checked for a code and there wasn't one. Shut the engine off and it happened again, so I did a WOT down the trail and it seemed to go away. There wasn't a lot more trail until we reached the truck

Sled is stock 2012 Pro RMK 163 with just over 900 kilometers. It does seem to idle low on restarts until I pick up the idle using the throttle and then it stays there.

Any ideas ? Hope this isn't the beginning of a persistent problem.

Ok, so I believe it's injectors. If the sled runs fine while under load and/or accelerating but feels like you hit the kill switch with the throttle open (drone?) when running down trail at even speed than I believe your injectors are not closing. Have had two sets put in my 11 and that is what it does when they go bad. They don't close so you actually end up with too much fuel for the air coming in and that is what I think you are calling a drone.

i developed a strange idle issue, thought it was the tps, and the last couple of rides it did a few strange things. nothing i was too concerned about, just thought i was due the the exceptionally deep snow we had been riding, right up until i lost the PTO rod bearing. hind sight being 20/20 there were some indications but nothing close to sending me back to the truck. see my other post for more details. hopefully this isn't your issue. honestly, i doubt it is. bet it is just the tps or some other electronic issue. you check your plug caps and wires? polaris uses pretty crappy ones and they caused me issue a couple times. the caps will vibrate loose from the plugs and the caps will fall off the wires.

My sled seems to be running fine, but I too have to burp the throttle on restarts to pick-up the rpm. Sled starts and idles perfect when cold but when I have been running it hard, shut it off, and then restart it, it will initially idle low and the guage won't come on. If I let it be, it will pick-up on its own after 20 seconds or so. Or, I burp the throttle and it picks up an guage comes on.

Is this normal?

Not trying to hijack your thread just thouhgt this was a good place to ask...

Great - that's exactly what I experienced today and the problem was better when I put in the non-ethanol plug which is confirming what you're saying - injectors stay open and cause rich condition and that annoying drone sound with no throttle response right around 5300 rpm. Sled was also cutting out with ethanol plug across the lake. Only cut out twice with the non-ethanol plug. I hope that it is covered by the powertrain warranty?

Have FUN!

After drying out the TPS and adding dialectic grease I kept my fingers crossed......:face-icon-small-dis

No problems, cut outs or drones. The sled just ripped on my ride today!!

Try it, you'll like it! Thanks everyone. :face-icon-small-hap
