An 87 year old snowmobiler is missing in Kittitas County.

Tommy Sasseen went missing about 2:30p.m. Wednesday afternoon, when he lost his group about twenty miles northeast of Ellensburg.

Thick fog made it hard for the 40 search and rescue workers trying to find him.

The search stopped at dark Thursday night and will start again Friday morning.

not good, I wonder if they want more search people?

I think as a community of snowmobile people we could have an absolute army there by this afternoon?

this is the most recent info i could find.

More than 65 volunteers are searching Friday for an 87-year-old snowmobiler missing about 10 miles south of Wenatchee along the Chelan-Kittitas County border.

Chelan County sheriff's spokesman Jerry Moore says a helicopter joined the search for a few hours Friday morning before snow flurries set in.

Tommy Sasseen of Cashmere was snowmobiling with several friends Wednesday when he became separated from the group. He has limited food and no overnight gear.

If you guys are recreating up on the colockum this weekend keep an eye out in the bushes and draws. Initial point of search was on the South side of Colockum Pass between the reserve and where the road joins the powerlines. He was last seen to the west of the road near the head of Cooke Canyon, not far from inspiration point for all you elk hunters. One of the other search groups followed a single track out to the north towards the reserve but then lost it when it got onto a well traveled track. We searched Wednesday and Thursday but fog limited visibility to at little as 10' at times. Sounds like today was better but as of dark, still not found. I know the Chelan County SAR is based at the Clear Lake trailhead and we have been running the Kittitas team up the Colockum Pass road. Hopefully he is found tomorrow for the families sake.

Wenatchee World online has a phone number on the most recent update for Officer Agnew if anyone is interested in being a volunteer on the search. Thanks for the help in advance.

We know the area really well and we are joining the search tomorrow. Hopefully we come out with positive results. Call the number for Lt. Agnew, she says they need the help. There are enough riders around here that know the area, that we could easily have an army up there looking.

I know the area about as well as anyone can and it can get really tricky up there when it gets socked in.

Supposedly the group he was with mentioned Cook canyon when they got separated....this is one way for the Kitittas riders to get up top. I have no idea if theres enough snow to get up Cook or Coleman right now but I would say no. Also, I would say Blewett is out too sooo it's all the way around to the wenatchee side.

Theres a million draws and creeks up there...take one turn wrong in the low visability and you could end up sunk to your neck in the soup so be careful. I hope that they've already found him cause I cant imagine an 87 year old taking much more. God speed Dale

Army of 2stroke Smoke

Searched for a few hours today once we got the word. Terrible conditions for SAR. Clear skies right now at 2:30am and heading back up in the morning with a group of 8. Haven't called Agnew to sign in but figure the more eyes the better.

I know that if it was me or any of my boys I would hope that an army of riders would come lookin so let's represent for this long time rider and bring him home.

Please anyone with any info let us know.I hope it all turns out for the best.

Dave

Does anyone know where the access points are for this area? Is there no snow on the (south side)ellensburg side of this area? Do you have to drive around to the wenatchee side to get up to where he was last known to be? I remember there being some cabins that WSU had for a research facility on the wenatchee side of the clockum, but that is the only time I have been there. Anyone have any updates or snow conditions for this area or if they found him?

Sad to hear this outcome, I think we were all hoping and praying for a miracle. To the family my condolences, stay strong, I'm sure Dale had a great life and was surrounded by good people. To the people who aided in the search, thanks for your efforts it's good to know we have people watching out for each other in the snowmobile community, I was impressed by the number of offers to help in the search, I think we all wish there was something we could have done. R.I.P. Dale
