I am heading to SW WA for the weekend and wondering if I should take the snowbike with me. I will be staying in Longview, WA but am open to ride Friday the 15th and willing to travel a couple hours. I would prefer to ride with other snowbikes but open to all suggestions.
Not a snowmobile racist. Just harder to keep up with you guys in the wide open! I guess it would be more politically correct to say I like the trees more than the meadows?
What type of snowbike do you have? We have Yamaha WR250R dual sport motorcycles and I have heard there are conversion kits for them. I have no concept of the level of skill needed to ride a snowbike and therefore am hesitant to spend the money on a kit.
I have a kx450f with a 2014 Timbersled ST kit. Not sure if a wr250f is going to have enough power to get enough track speed in the steep and deep terrain I like. A lot of guys are going with the Fuel Injected mx 450's because they seem to work well and can be found used for a reasonable price. There is also starting to be used kits popping up on Craigslist more often. A well maintained and upgraded kit can save you some $$$ and is a lot of fun to ride.
My snowbike is pretty easy to ride, way easier to sidehill and turn then a sled. On the groomed trails it takes a bit to get used to but after a couple hours of riding It was 5th gear pinned to get to the truck! Top speed on my set-up is around 55 mph staying just off the rev-limiter
