Looking for a new helmet.

Most helmets no longer have the chin curtain. With a fullface helmet, this doesn't let your air escape and causes fogging. On MX style of helmets it's not a fogging issue, but does restrict your breathing.
Most people just wear a thin balaclava under their helmet. I recommend the Klim as it is very thin with windstopper gore-tex lower area around your neck and a moisture wicking upper.
Powderbrad, your face will not freeze. As I stated earlier, you will want to put some kind of a breath guard in your helmet. This will cover your nose and cheeks. Your goggles will cover the rest. I've ridden -20 many times with no issues and felt I could go even colder. In fact my hands get cold before anything on my face.

right now i have a kbc vrx and love it but i wercked and the fome is crack on the inside
so i bought a new one gona tryout the gmax 37x for 70$ on ebay and progrip goggles for 50$
but with the kbc and scott goggles worked out awsome rode in -30 and i was hot

one guy on the trip bought a fancy ski-doo jet plain lookin helmet and payed 400$ for it
he ended up with frost bite on his checks hahaha dumbazz

picked up a fly Carbon Kevlar...super light and fits like a glove. have heard amazing things about the KLIM...and price? remember it is your noodle your protecting

I have had the Thor Force for a couple seasons now. Very light, vents well and has more front wind protection than any other MX style that I have worn in the last ten years.

I've always wondered, since I dont have one, an open face helmet and goggles must have tons of air flow tot he face resulting in like sum1 said above, frozen cheeks and such. I dont ride mountians often, and usually about -20 deg C when I ride @ home. I want an open face to prevent fogging and whatnot, but my face would freeze, would it not??

The reason mountain riders where open face is because they don't like riding the trail. Yes it can get cold on the trail, but we try to ride the trails as little as possible. We like to ride off trail in the fresh powder at slower speeds where you have to get off the seat and move around which makes you hot and breathe hard. So for us fogging is more of an issue than warmth, we need the ventilation to keep things cool and dry. Often I will wear a light mask on the trail and take it off once we get off trail.

Any helmet with a heated lense shouldn't fog at all. Only one person I ride with wears a open face, and no one else I ride with can understand why. I wear a neckwarmer with my modular and open all the vents and i'm warm no matter what. It seems like so much hassle to have goggles, helmet, balaclava etc etc, and the guy is always complaining his face is cold, and is always buying new breath deflectors/balaclavas.
