Looking for a member here, who built his own running boards a while back.

Bushy approved. lol

I copied this design from a local who did them custom for a buddy. No weight gain. Much less surface area for snow to stick to (unlike those others they stamp out). Super traction. No height gain. Powdercoat doubles snow unstickability. Mig welded aluminum. Stood up to hard use this season. 1/4" stock for rungs - cut teet with 4' grinder~, 3/4" angle rivet to tunnel, 1/2" X 1/8" flat stock - rivet to board edge. I've seen the rest and there not the best (easiest, quickest, most profitable maybe, but way too much surface area). I kept the hole under foot and maintain the flotation the solid board provides in the back (pow rider). Full open boards would tend to dig in rather than float I'd think, so I put mine just under foot. In extreme snow-sticking conditions they still build snow around your foot but never under your foot and a few kicks knocks it off easy. Took a good while to put them together from scratch and no way I'd do em for rent, but if you can, then doo:)

Those things look pretty nice, but don't fix my width problem. I think I'm gona try and see if I can get snowstar's running boards to fit my sled, they are made for the edge chassie, and I have a gen two, but I think it could still work. One problem though is I need to have the removable roll edge, and my older xc tunnle doesn't have that, it's all one piece with the tunnle, so I'm wondering if I can buy those roll edges from my dealer? Or can you only get em when you buy a tunnle? Anybody know?

That's some lightweight suspension you got there..... :D

600xc4me,

Just do what h2otoys said and buy Better Boards. We make them specifically for your application that fit perfectly. They have wishbone supports for added strength on that weak gen II style board. The other added advantage to our product is that we designed the cleats to have equal elevation height to your outer extrusions so that the net result is that your foot support is the entire width of the running board. Your foot is not locked into place like our competitors being trapped straight and down in the well. You use the traction of the product in unison with the traction of the running board outer extrusion for a net result of a wider foot surface without the sacrefice of hang in powder. Wide running boards are poor performers in deep snow conditions. Too low on the cleats like everyone else and you simply end up standing on the iceberg and get no benefit of traction. Search in Polaris for custom Gen 11 and see photos of our stuff installed. Looks nice and performs BETTER! 1500 units on the snow just last year...16 models to chose from in raw aluminum or hard compound industrial black powder. Save yourself alot of hassle and the possibility of ruining your sled with a do-it-yourself custom job.

F bomb, I checked your web site, and could only see a few pics, the ones I could see looked the same as snow eliminators, no wishbone supports or anything that made stand out over the others out there. Could you post some pics of them installed on a gen two? On your site it looked like there should be pics of all the models, but they didn't come up. Right now I'm looking at snowstar's running boards, if they don't work out I might some other options. Including yours, but if you have some pics, please post em up.

If you want to see and excellent example you can goo to advanced search and type in member Verticaledge69 in General Snowmobiling topic My New Toy. Very good photos of Better Boards for the Gen II installed on a nice sled that Alan and his dad Doug built.

I thought about this a ton and and kept trying to come up with something and reinvent the wheel but I finally got fed up and pulled the plug on F Bombs Better Boards before my last ride in the spring. I tell you what...... I was pissed!!!!!! I was pissed that waited so long to put something so great, and sometheing that worked so well on my sled. I went with the black powder coated ones and I have never been happier in a week full of powder, my feet rarely slipped off the boards and it was 2 to 3 feet of fresh all week. They did fill up with snow but acouple kicks and you had a good place to stand. After about 2 hours when we stopped I would break out the plastic shovel and give them a good clearing. Thanks for a good product and great service F Bomb, its because of people like you that the industry is as great as it is!!!!

Thanks so much DW! Great review.

I've re-invented the wheel a few times myself....wish I had that time and money back in fraction...I'd be a very very wealthy person!

The Better Boards aren't for everybody....JUST EVERYOBODY WHO RIDES POWDER!

They look nice, and I'm sure they work, but they still don't fix my width problem, that it why I'm moddifying my running boards, for more width, not better snow evacuation, that's hopefully just a by product of widening them. There is one thing about these I don't like though, on the polaris one's, not all the holes and the tracktion thing sticking up, only 4 out of 6, so me that looks very uncomfortable. Here's a few pics of what I'm planning right now. This is snowstars set up, looks awesome. Note it has the grip strips by each hole all the way to the front.:D And it widens them quite a bit. I'm not trying to down play your product in anyway, I have read lots of good reviews of them, but they just are not what I'm looking for at this time.

That's fine...thanks for taking a look.

THIS GOES FOR MY PRODUCT AS WELL AS ANY OTHER SIMILAR DESIGNS

Do yourself a huge favor when you get your project finished before you go riding. TEST your boots in those footwells and make 100% certain that you can freely remove your feet. For your test pack towels into the upper portion of your footwells to simulate the snow that packs up in there during everyday riding. If you experience any binding or any possibility that your style of boot sole or actual size of boot will hang up even moderately, modify those running boards so there is no hang up before you use them.

To the rest of the world that might be considering what product to buy and which direction to go please note. As a rider, racer, designer, and manufacturer I feel that cleats in the footwell slots are inherently dangerous and I'm concerned for your safety in the event of a roll over.

Ok yeah I guess that makes sence, I just don't have my feet in there all that often, I tend to stand in the back, where I have one inch of running board to stand on, hence why I want to widen them.
