looking at a new sled

Guy on here suggested i look into m8s (i was looking at dragons). Anywho, i couldnt really find any info about the m6. Im 6' and about 150lbs so im thinking power wont be an issue. I ride deep but not too steep, not into any crazy high marking or anything. I live in BC

The reason im considering the m6 is b/c it is extremely less money than the m8 that being said how are the m7s ?

M7 is a great sled but no reverse.

Had a 6 and 7 at the same time and sold them to buy two M8s.

Still have the M8s and added two M800 ProClimbs. Think you know my answer to the 6 question. :face-icon-small-hap
 
--start going through craigslist in different areas and regions -- Lots out there

--any of the Cat laydown motors will outlast and outpower a Polaris
 
I don't know why ppl ask these questions without listing a budget.

I ride with a couple of M7's when we head west and I am consistently impressed with what they can do. The guys I ride with might be a touch smaller than you so I wouldnt suggest going smaller than the 7, but I would suggest a cat over a poo. I was an avid polaris man for many years, but I wanted to make the move to a big displacement motor about 6 years ago. I saw my friends polaris 800's falling apart far too often so I went with cat. (And I have endured plenty og crap from my friends and family for jumping ship) Since then I have had two cat 800's, and now I am on a 1000. I am not going to claim that cat has been trouble free, but I would rather deal with drive chains or bearings than broken crank shafts.
 
Wellllll........ You are in the Cat section. So I will give you my reason I went cat. RELIABILITY! Plain and simple. You keep it stock and do regular maintanence and it will simply keep going. Simple mods for a little more hp and still super reliable.

I went M8. The way I see it go bigger and you don't have to use all the power, but you have it when you are ready. Go small and when it isn't enough you are tapped.

Go M8. Of course, like Wyo said.....budget?

m6= 120HP, M7= 140HP, M8 2010 and up 163HP, older m8= 145HP these are without Mods
 
I messed up my M last yr so in a pinch I bought a 08RMK 600 and I cant sell u how happy I was to sell it and buy a new M8
the RMK would want to pull back over when side hilling any time I let off the gas more than say 1/8 from where it was.that was something I did not get use to.few other things I did not like .
I would get a older M7 over a newer M6 unless U plan on dropping a M7 top end and using a efi mapping box.
but U can get the 07 to 09 800 cheep. I would spend the cash and get the 10 up just for the 160hp but if that is not in the $$$ m7 can be had cheep cheep and they just keep running.
My bud has a f7 with 12000k mi on it still original top end and his teen son has put on over 1/2 of those

Well i would most likely have to take a loan out. The thing is I live in Canada and up here from what ive seen sleds/any vehicles sell for more $. That being said im a first year apprentice electrician, now you roughly know my income. Based on that Id like a somewhat newer sled. We've had the 580 for about five years. Its been a good sled...(besides the battery having to be replaced every friggin year) But the wedge chassis can only take a mediooker rider like me so far. This is one big reason I want a rider fwd. Second, the sleds almost as old as me its time to upgrade.

So to directly answer your ? id say 5-7 gran. I'm contemplating just renting a 550 poo or doo this year and buying brand new next year.

I don't know about up in Canada but down here 7G will get you into a 2010 M8. Thats what I'm riding and it's a great sled. Had a buddy last year buy a brand new 2010 dragon 800 and that thing was a POS he ended up getting rid of it after about 500 miles. I have another buddy riding a 2009 dragon 800 and it is a bigger POS than the 10 was. He's had it into at least 3 different shops and they cant get it to run right. I'm sure that I have a bias but I like the wat M chasis handles alot better than the dragon.
 
I have a 2010 M8 all black LE, 153, less than 1400 miles, both clutches are brand new. Has a geo mod and anti stab kit. really nice sled. $6500

Thats what I recommend, if there is one here you can find one somewhere.
 
I would say get the M8. The torque in the midrange is significantly more on the M8 vs M7/M6. I would say buy an 07-09 M8. They will be cheaper than the 10-11 M8 HO sleds but still be plenty enough for you. They are a few holdover 11 M8s around that you can get a good deal on.
 
I payed 7600 in oct for a 11 m8 ltd less than 400mi on it
in way N MN 10mi short of the factory.
but I don't think u can get a loan on a used sled with any rate worth paying.
I know of a few 10 m8 around my parts for 7k.

u should not have to bad of a time finding a m7 for under 4 but don't think any bank will finance a 7yr old sled.
I would think u would be best off finding a non current 11 and financing through manufacture.

with 2k down his min payment is 160
but poo rates are still almost 7%

he was on the fence with the pro or a xfire the poo won with free delivery and extra belt

That's not true. I bought my used 2010 M8 last year and my interest rate is sub 2%. Defiantly don't use manufacture financing they kill you on the rate.
 
If money is an issue, an M7 is your best option, for the money M7's are still amazing sleds and will still hold their own against newer sleds, but if you can come up with some money an M8 would be well worth the money cause an M8 has all the upgrades that you have to do to your M7 to get it to run with an M8! The M7 and M8 are bullet proof and mods are relatively inexpensive!

I cant say ive actually walked into a bank and asked for a loan for a sled but i have gotten a loan (paid of now) for my quad and its a 96. That was more of a loan without them knowing what i was doing with the $.

Anywho, with what you guys say I'm thinking whats financially right for me would be to wait until next year and get a 11 or 12 m8, Just to put it into perspective for you guys about the pricing here though, the local cat dealer has a 10 HCR for 10k CAD. with 3000miles, im curious to see what that kind of sled would go for in your states.

How much does it cost to get a sled across the boarder? From what I've seen mileage doesn't impact price nearly as much is would have thought.
 
2010 M8's are going for $8500 -$10000 NA and 11000-14000 turboed up here in canada finding one for $8000 is a great deal. I think your best best bet is waiting a year or two. Your going to be making a lot more money if your a second or third year apprentice. The 2010 is definitely worth the wait and the price if you can afford it. As for the dragon stay away from 2009-2010 polaris 800 for sure. Friend is a die hard polaris guy, has around 9 sleds in his family all polaris. Said you couldn't pay him to own one because it would just cost him money. 2011 and up 800 are a lot better not bullet proof but better.
