Looking at a new Sled, need opinions

Going to look at a 2006 Ski-doo Summit 800, 144" track

So far from what I've read is nothing short of great,

Just looking for opinions on how it would suit a fairly new sledder, more of a flatlander (been to the mountains once) but moving into the Mountains this summer.

It would basically be something to learn on for a few years, and I am looking on how it handles, is it easy to sidehill, boondock, etc.

Regards,

Should be a very good sled if you buy well. Check compression and all the basics, bent stuff, non working electrical stuff,ect... Compression should be 130's and both cylinders should be within 4 to 6 lbs of each other or it's heading pistons and rings soon (easy to do btw).

Moving to "the mountains" is a pretty broad statement but a 144 is a good length and if you find you need more then doing a track extension in a year or two is a fairly inexpensive upgrade to that sled but not really needed in all areas.

Best of luck with the purchase :face-icon-small-coo

Thanks for the reply, I was kind of worried about 144" being a bit too short and I was planning on going for a 151", but from what I've read this thing is a beast, so we'll have to see :face-icon-small-hap

new sled

the 144 is a good for sombody like you to learn on. I used to have one for any years and loved it. Yes you may not be able to go up those big hills like the guys with the longer tracks but thats to be expected. But for side hillin and carving and doing drop offs the 144 is the way to go..hope this helps

I live in colorado and i ride a 144 with an 8 inch big wheel kit yes it has some motor mods but i can get any were people can with a longer track. Think of it this way shoter track big motor lots of track speed=fun:face-icon-small-coo

Thanks for the input guys, I'm pretty sure I'm sold on it.

How does it go as far as maintenance / gas mileage? It's definitely going to be a big step going from a four to a two-stroke.

I'm with ya there!

I just picked up a '06 with a 162 CE, not exactly what I wanted for a solid sled(thinkin' 144) but this thing was too good of a deal. and I know where the stock parts are to make it a 144 again. If I keep it I'll be doing it this summer. How many miles on the motor is important. Might have to factor in a shortblock sooner rather than later if it's up there. I also have a '10 Summit demo sled from work and the '06 X was the only sled I considered for a possible second(third? I got a Cat too!) sled.
