Lookin to buy a sled for my friends to ride!

Get a RMK 700 2nd Gen. Can pick up nice low mile ones for $1500 and they're pull and go reliable. Put alot of miles on 2nd gen RMKS and they'll go wherever the new sleds go, especially if you find a 144 or 151.

Don't do it!!!!!!!

I've made this mistake twice, well kinda. First was my 550 fan cooled sled it was a pile but it ran good for what it was it's my first sled and when I got my Rev 800 I would let friends use it it was fun at first but then the clutch blew out I couldn't ask the person who was riding it at the time to pay for it as it could have been worn from the dozens of rides before since it was a cheap 550 I didn't care much and scraped it (whole sled cost 200$), next was 01 Mountain Cat 600, (I still have this sled), I bought it when I damaged my Rev800 and needed a back up sled and something to get me out to the cliff so I could rescue the Rev. It was dirt cheap (600$ a great price for what it is). After I finished putting the rev back together I would let friends use the cat, it went from just casual use to friends wanting to borrow it when I was working, next thing I know it's getting used for 4 UP towing, and getting worn pretty quick, I still continued to let other friends use it when riding with me, but while everybody chips in for gas I was stuck eating the cost of belt replacement, oil, and other maintenance.. now I've got a bunch of work to do to get it back to where I want it to be, so it will be a fun back up if my rev has any issues, and also so I can ahve a sled for my girl. (not the same as letting your friends ride your sled they tend not to be so abusive ;) )

The handle bars are bent, the pull cord handle vanished, the hand warmers don't work, the clutch needs to be cleaned, new plugs ect ect, and I started to buy things to make it more fun for me (risers, ect), and realised I don't want to put 100's of dollars into a sled for others when I could be putting that money into my rev.

I know this sounds kinda dickish but at first it sounds like a GREAT idea, and it is alot of fun to get your buddy from out of town on a sled now and then, but give 2-3 months into the season and you start thinking maybe it's time your buddies bought there own sleds and stopped putting the strain on your wallet. (there are of course always exceptions some friends are more respectful then others)

Im lookin to buy a 2nd sled with the hopes of getting some of my non-sledhead friends into mt sleddin. I was looking at 96-99 rmk because they seam to be the right price. has any one had any experience with these in the pow Im not expecting them to highmark as much as just get them out and back.

I have had a 98 700, 99 700, 01 800, they are real good sleds for that gen. very strong running and very trouble free if maintained. And still have the 01, and it is used for a spare sled for who ever needs it, friends family so on. But I have no friends so it is for sale.

My thoughts exactly. I let a few buddies ride my spares occasionally but if anything were busted they would be the guys who would fix it in a heart beat no questions asked. Even if it wasn't there fault. A few years ago though I let a guy ride my 800 RMK edge. It had 260 miles on it. He tagged a huge rock and totaled the sled. Never offered to help anything. Even when I bought the sled back from the insurance company he never even offered to help work on it. needless to say he has never been invited again and doesn't understand why he is the only one not going. most of my buddies wanted a sled after the second ride and went out to buy their own. Started cheap and are now riding newer sleds. The comment from above yes you have to have a sled for the girl to ride or they will never let you go every weekend lol. Mine was with me for 4 years and never wrecked a sled. Much less aggressive than the dudes thank goodness

What are you asking?

cheap rmk

I'd agree on the 600/700 polaris motors of that time, they were solid and dependable. Had a 99 700 SKS and a 00' 600 RMK, never any engine troubles. Even a 98 700 RMK, in decent shape, would be a good sled for
a loaner. beggers can't be choosers.
