it is the pheasant opener!!!:D

all the out of staters will be heading up, me included. but i wonder if i am an out of stater, since thats where i grew up.;)

any one else heading up, where are you hunting? i'll be around warner and mansfield.:beer;:beer;:beer;

I'll be hunting south east of huron. Pheasant opener is like a state holiday in south dakota, there is a little town called cavour just east of huron that maybe has a population of 150 and they have a little bar that gets strippers shipped in just for the opener.

yep i have heard that. have never ventured there though.

going for my first time this year. the group i'm going with has hunted around tulare (sp?) for a few years and had good luck so i'm pretty excited. not going till wed though.

Hunting probably won't be worth a @#$^ the first weekend since there is literally NO corn whatsoever taken off in the whole state yet. We've still got 4 or 5 days of beans to go. Usually we're 1/2 done with corn by the opener but not this year. Good luck though guys. I'd like to enstate a law that says for every two roosters you take you have to take a hen. We are overpopulated with them BAD.

I guess I'm ok with the hunting not being very good since we'll be working. All I can say to the out of state guys is LOOK OUT! Parking in the middle of the road will NOT be tolerated. We have a lot of harvest left and have no time to argue with rich a$$holes that think they own the roads we pay to maintain.

lol redneck farmer. i agree 100%, dumb sobs will park in the middle of the road and then ***** when you hit them with the combine. shouldn't you be out getting the corn out, or is it still too muddy? my buds around warner said they are running, but they will always stop to hunt. the best way to hunt ditch chickens is from the combine step.

I will be close to Aberdeen....I go to a small town called Selby every year. I have some connections there. I love it! I am going on the 1st of Nov....I avoid the opener....too many people and I avoid the weekends because all the locals are out.

Sunridge came with me one year....we had quite an adventure in the Selby Hotel! haha....especially in the basement's old Speak Easy! LMAO! I may go a second time if Sunridge jacka$$ will let me know when he is available in Nov.

The guy who lets us use his farm, called last night and asked us how many guys we have coming this year.

Today he is going to strip his fields based upon the number of hunters we have.

That way we don't need to drive them into a corner of a field before we get to shooting. On every strip we get a shot at the birds in that strip.......

You got to love it! He does that every year for us.....

LOL

Dude...I likely have 3 more weekends of football before I can get away. So....likley the 2nd or 3rd weekend of November? Call me biotch!

I'll be drinkin' beer and playing pool while you guys are telling your stories two tables down about how far away you shot that rooster from. :D:p j/k

Alot of our fields were wet all summer, especially where the corn is. After several inches of rain in the last couple of weeks they are REALLY wet. With no-till we can't afford to go out and tear them up unless we are forced to. If we get rained out another time or two we'll likely just start going no matter what as long as we can get trucks loaded on the side of the road. Tracks on our grain cart allow us to run in wetter conditions than most of the neighbors already. Now we just need some on the combine. :face-icon-small-hap

I know all of the above places.... Welcome to SD!!!!!!!!

will be at the steeple bar in orient,sd most of the time..
Look for my name on the ceiling of the Steeple... almost as soon as you walk in. I love that place.

It has been a while since I have read the rule book. I believe it stated and this is the honest to God truth ............" Hunting will not begin until 12:00 PM so the non-resident hunters can patronize local establishments."
