Long Track Mountain Max

Hey folks, Just wondering if anybody out there has any tips/tricks/thoughts about this. Who makes the best kits, how long is the best set-up, all that kind of stuff. Just wanna have a BA mountain sled. I ride mostly Grand Lake/ Northern colorado area. It's currently a 136" with simmons GenII skis. That's the only mod.

I found a 159" kit from Mountain performance that looks pretty quality. I also found a 159" track on tracks usa/ebay for $300. Its from a Polaris series IV. Does anybody know if this will work? It has the correct pitch and width.

Thanks for the help, Brian

159 is good on the Mt max. Not too many people making those tunnell extensions anymore if MPI has it thats good. Rail extensions are pretty standard. should be easy to find a track cheap too.

136-159= BOO

The 159 on the MM7 does work well...however, you will need a different skid to get a 136 to 159. Tom Hartman (Hartman INC) is where you want to buy your kit from. You will need at minimum....Drivers, Gears, track, tunnel extention kit, and a rear skid....the geometry on the 136 skid is terrible when setback and relocated with extentions...find yourself a good used takeoff (vertical escape etc) and you will be much happier with your investment.

You don't NEED a new rear skid. Tom Hartman can get you what you need for the 159" setup. Don't get me wrong a new skid will shed weight and might work better but it is not required.

I had mine setup with a 159" x 2" track with Tom's setup and it climbed better than sleds several years newer and lighter. It's all in setup.

I also had SLP triple pipes, airbox mod, reed spacers, P-85 clutch and all of Tom's recomendations on gearing, clutching, jetting, etc..

Call Hartman Inc. and he will get you setup correctly.JMO

like I said, the rear skid is not required. The 136 skid uses the W arm in the front which is less than desirable for approach angle. the performance gains with going to a different skid are night and day. I am just trying to inform the OP that for not much more money it can be a much better setup.

Inform me some on swapping skids, I'm more accustomed to 4x4 and muscle cars than sleds. What is required on a skid swap and what kind options do I have, Thanks.

SKID SWAP

Inform me some on swapping skids, I'm more accustomed to 4x4 and muscle cars than sleds. What is required on a skid swap and what kind options do I have, Thanks.

basically what is involved is either finding someone who has done a similar swap who can give you the dimensions of what you are looking to do, or collapse the skid (compress) and locate visualy in the tunnel for clearance, tension etc. some skids are very forgiving on their measurements and some (yamaha 6 bold skids) are very critical (within a 1/4" or less) for correct travel without binding.

the front mount is usually fairly easy as it is located front to back with track tension and up and down by shock length and driver location. you must fish plate the tunnel to prevent damage from the new skid/location.

the rear can be a bit tricky. the skid needs to ride parralel to the ground and not overcam the rear arm at full travel.

theres more to the story but you get the idea......two person job and a couple nights of mearsuring and it will come together.

So more or less I would have to find a good donor sled and get the measurements. I don't know if I'm up for that kind of mod just yet, but it's interesting for sure.

CHEVY,
correct....but you will need to relocate your skid regardless if you use your 136 or a different skid.

The Hartman kit will come with all the messurements and brackets. All you will need is a track.

Something to think about with the track. Going 151 or longer I highly recommend anti rachet drivers. So you are going to want to make sure you have a track with open windows. Or be willing to cut the windows and add clips for the new drivers.

I have an 02 Viper with the 144" extension. But I would love to go 159".
Can anyone estimate the price of the change? On the cheap. Not made of money. haha
thanks
jeff

I am up here in Laramie, 2000 mtn max 700, I have a 153 under mine and parting sled, I have MPI tunnel extension kit, rail extension and track if ya interested.

I bolted a skid and 153" under mine from a 09 nitro. Super easy. Put avid drivers so wont ratchet. Its never pulled or climbed so hard. Rebuilt primary as well with silver white silver spring if i remember right. 38mm Mikuni flatslide carbs with viper throddle(overkill). I had to cut the paddles down to 2 1/4 on the track so they wouldnt slap the cooler.
