I have to throw out a shout to all the M1000 riders out there. We must be a unique bunch. Maybe a little crazy, but we all know that it's just flat out tough to beat a great running M1000. I'm one of the lucky ones who has had an amazing experience with the M1000. I'm a long time Polaris guy who had great luck with Polaris over the years. Snow check for the '09 sleds had me worried and I couldn't believe I snow checked an Arctic Cat!! I picked up my '09 M1000 LE 162. I had all the SLP goodies, vent's and all the crap we put on these things before it was even started. From the 1st ride til now it's ran HARD and never let me down.
I picked up a 2010 M8 this year and it has an OVS turbo kit on it. The TM8 has received most of my attention this year, but the M1000 was always in the trailer "just in case". And luckily it was b/c I needed it twice early on. Each time I bring out the M1000 my riding buddies grown and complain. They hate it when I bring out the 1000 b/c it makes them look like a squid. When my M1000 with SLP exhaust goes everywhere their pump gas 800's go it makes them mad .
I'm a pretty quiet guy most of the time and I'm not really brand loyal too much, but I've really enjoyed stomping the crap out of every Dragon, XP (800 and 860) and M8 that's posed a challenge. My Polaris buddies were really itching to get the 1000 out this year to see how it stacked up against the new Pro. I have to admit, those Pro's really impressed me. Especially in the powder. The edge I had on them in previous years had faded a lot and those dang Pro's were pretty close (unless it was a long pull).
I did have the chance to take a mid-week ride this last week and the snow was a little heavy due to the warmer weather. It was a quick mid-day decision and I had a full tank in the 1000 since January . So I took the 1000 and now I'm regretting it. That 1000 was flat nasty. No climb even challenged it. The snow was tough and the 800's just couldn't pull the hills in the heavy snow. My 1000 and a BD TM8 were the only sleds to climb each hill. And the 1000 would pull each run on the first attempt. M8, Dragon and Pro couldn't go over some of the hills in the 1000's track. Needless to say I was pretty dang satisfied with the M1000. As we rode back I started thinking about all the rides, the climbs and the trail breaking I've done with this sled. It's been a dang good run!! My anxiety over getting the Arctic Cat that summer in 2008 was put to rest. That '09 M1000 delivered 100% of the time. Never let me down and never missed a beat.
In 1000 miles it's become my favorite sled of all time. Even now, when it comes to a real nasty creek drainage that's steep with deep powder, my 1000 is my 1st choice for breaking trail. This mountain goat will cling to the steepest slope and sidehill for miles. Yeah my 1000's been on a diet, but I also have a 430lb TM8 and I'd take the 1000 over the TM8 in the nasty stuff.
Now I'm getting ready to sale this beauty and I'm having a hard time parting with it. I have a family member in need and I'm going to let the 1000 go. I just wanted to throw a shout out to all the M1000 guys out there b/c they know what I'm talking about. Normally M1000 guys are a little bigger than most. We get the 1000 to take us where the 800's struggle to pack our extra weight. I'm only 200 lbs now and I bought the M1000 b/c I wanted the nastiest non turboed sled I could get. (and I owned some pretty rad mod sleds before) From climbing, breaking trails into the "honey holes" and being 100% reliable every time I pulled the rope, the M1000 lived up to everything I dreamed it would be that summer I snow checked it.
Just like all sleds, in the hands of someone who can ride they all look pretty dang good, and they are. But no sled has impressed me more in all conditions as the '09 M1000 I bought 3 years ago. Thanks Arctic Cat.
