Long live the M1000....

I have to throw out a shout to all the M1000 riders out there. We must be a unique bunch. Maybe a little crazy, but we all know that it's just flat out tough to beat a great running M1000. I'm one of the lucky ones who has had an amazing experience with the M1000. I'm a long time Polaris guy who had great luck with Polaris over the years. Snow check for the '09 sleds had me worried and I couldn't believe I snow checked an Arctic Cat!! I picked up my '09 M1000 LE 162. I had all the SLP goodies, vent's and all the crap we put on these things before it was even started. From the 1st ride til now it's ran HARD and never let me down.

I picked up a 2010 M8 this year and it has an OVS turbo kit on it. The TM8 has received most of my attention this year, but the M1000 was always in the trailer "just in case". And luckily it was b/c I needed it twice early on. Each time I bring out the M1000 my riding buddies grown and complain. They hate it when I bring out the 1000 b/c it makes them look like a squid. When my M1000 with SLP exhaust goes everywhere their pump gas 800's go it makes them mad :).

I'm a pretty quiet guy most of the time and I'm not really brand loyal too much, but I've really enjoyed stomping the crap out of every Dragon, XP (800 and 860) and M8 that's posed a challenge. My Polaris buddies were really itching to get the 1000 out this year to see how it stacked up against the new Pro. I have to admit, those Pro's really impressed me. Especially in the powder. The edge I had on them in previous years had faded a lot and those dang Pro's were pretty close (unless it was a long pull).

I did have the chance to take a mid-week ride this last week and the snow was a little heavy due to the warmer weather. It was a quick mid-day decision and I had a full tank in the 1000 since January :(. So I took the 1000 and now I'm regretting it. That 1000 was flat nasty. No climb even challenged it. The snow was tough and the 800's just couldn't pull the hills in the heavy snow. My 1000 and a BD TM8 were the only sleds to climb each hill. And the 1000 would pull each run on the first attempt. M8, Dragon and Pro couldn't go over some of the hills in the 1000's track. Needless to say I was pretty dang satisfied with the M1000. As we rode back I started thinking about all the rides, the climbs and the trail breaking I've done with this sled. It's been a dang good run!! My anxiety over getting the Arctic Cat that summer in 2008 was put to rest. That '09 M1000 delivered 100% of the time. Never let me down and never missed a beat.

In 1000 miles it's become my favorite sled of all time. Even now, when it comes to a real nasty creek drainage that's steep with deep powder, my 1000 is my 1st choice for breaking trail. This mountain goat will cling to the steepest slope and sidehill for miles. Yeah my 1000's been on a diet, but I also have a 430lb TM8 and I'd take the 1000 over the TM8 in the nasty stuff.

Now I'm getting ready to sale this beauty and I'm having a hard time parting with it. I have a family member in need and I'm going to let the 1000 go. I just wanted to throw a shout out to all the M1000 guys out there b/c they know what I'm talking about. Normally M1000 guys are a little bigger than most. We get the 1000 to take us where the 800's struggle to pack our extra weight. I'm only 200 lbs now and I bought the M1000 b/c I wanted the nastiest non turboed sled I could get. (and I owned some pretty rad mod sleds before) From climbing, breaking trails into the "honey holes" and being 100% reliable every time I pulled the rope, the M1000 lived up to everything I dreamed it would be that summer I snow checked it.

Just like all sleds, in the hands of someone who can ride they all look pretty dang good, and they are. But no sled has impressed me more in all conditions as the '09 M1000 I bought 3 years ago. Thanks Arctic Cat.

I'm Teary Eyed

Dang, you almost had me crying when I got to the point where you said you're gonna sell her. I almost sold mine earlier this year but I have it tweaked to the point where my buds have to run around 10 pounds of boost on their turbo sleds to climb with me. It also takes them at least 1/4 mile to catch me in a drag race but I always shut her down about then 'cause that is where I get scared. TOO Fast fer me!!! Plus I don't want them ever to say they can out run me. Anyway you're gonna miss her when you get rid of your one and only. Kind of like burying one of your favorite dogs when they die. Hope you don't miss her too much cause I don't think we'll se another sled like them in the future. I'm sad to see they're history but awful glad I still got one.:brokenheart:

Have to agree with all of the above. I honestly feel like I would be going backwards with anything I bought except a strong turbo at this point. The old saying is so true. There is no replacement for displacement! I love my 1000 and have no desire to trade down.

Aaron

I had mine for sale for three months last fall. It didn't sell, thank jesus. Spent about $3000 in parts into her up to snuff. All I gotta say is naaa na na-na naaaaaaaa -- I still got my 1000-- catch me if you can.

1000

sniff sniff im hugging mine right now.....feel the same way...every year i find something even steeper to climb and it still goes up and never lets me down.

Great post Ricks!!! Have to say the same about my '09 M1K. Even in stock HP form it pulls hills better than any 800 in our group, including my '10 M8 (especially above 11K ft). Now after 700 miles of fun I am going to add the pipe, fuel controller, and EGT's. Never been on a 09+ modded M1K, but with the way it pulled in stock form I think my buddies on their modded 07 M1K's are gonna be upset.

I'm not sure which mod was the most bang because I did them at the same time, but I did the SLP full system with PCV, Powerclaw and the BDX Lightweight DD at the same time and it was unbelievable the difference it made in performance and throttle response. I think dropping the 13lbs of rotating mass in the mechanical reverse was HUGE in the seat-of-the-pants feel.

I'm still in denial that AC cut it from there lineup. I think I will keep mine and sell the tm8

Indeed!

Couldnt have said it any better myself, it sure is fun humbling the 800 crowd when they think their poop doesnt stink. The M1000 is the funnest sled I have ever owned. I too wondered about all the hype of the pump gas turbo crowd, but the ones I have been around havent had anything on me. Gonna hate to sell this sled when the time comes.

Greg

I for one love my 1000, it has now grown to a 1200 with a 3" track and I can go places the PG T800's go and then some.

I love this machine and will probably be keeping it and spending a few dollars on it to lighten it up and make it perform that much better

M1000 Love

Funny I feel the same way I love my M1000 2007 model year w/2009 tunnel and SpeedWerx everything, BDX Intake, Attitude Box . Runs Great love the torque!!!

I'm new on the M1000 but got a good deal off a guy selling an 08 153 Sno-Pro hold over still under warranty and have fallen in love with the sled. just have a HPS can, MTX C&A skis, RSI riser and bars and some vents but speedwerx pipe and Y-pipe are in the mail, as is a 09 diamond drive. Excited to get it all tricked out.

On a side note what would you M1000 guys recommend for an intake? heard the BDX is kind of a sloppy fit and finish? Sorry not trying to hijack.

yeah i know im the same way. absolutely love my m1000 got the slp setup on it and got it finally setup for me and my riding and this thing is unstoppable. hardly find a climbing area that i dont have a problem with getting to the top in one shot. got a great deal to trade for a brand new 1100 turbo but dont really want to get rid of it yet and try a new chassis. sad to see it go.

I also love my M10 but know I am sitting on a ticking time bomb at around 1800 Mi and thinking of bringing to hay days before I end up buying a crank but I love it and want to keep especially seeing what you get for them I am walking the fence and dont know what side to jump to

Lot's of love for the M1000. I really didn't intend on stirring the pot with anyone when I started this thread. I've got 2 guys from Jackson with 860's that sent me a fun loving PM stating that there isn't an M1000 that will hang with their 860's. If they can swing it, I'm gonna meet up with them on Thursday for the last "feeding" for the M1000......she'll be sold on Saturday. They both sound pretty cool so we'll see if their for real or just Snowest Sally's....:)

Santa left me a new Go Pro helmet cam and I haven't even opened the box yet. I'm going to charge it up tonight and play around with it before Thursday. The last 860 I rode with was a really hard runner, especially getting out of the hole, but there just wasn't enough track speed and whiskey to get it over the last steep section of the hill. Maybe I better pack another rope?

It's kinda like my CR500. My 450's are so much sweeter to ride. But when it comes to a nasty climb, my 450's don't stand a chance when the 5-honey is on the hill.

All in fun guys :).....Long live the 1000!!

I am sitting on a ticking time bomb at around 1800 Mi

Huh? I know a lot of guys that have 3000-4000 miles with no problems at all...... Why do you assume it is going to go around 1800 miles?

Aaron

BDX intake breathes the best and is the cheapest, it works.

why would 1800miles be of any worry I ran mine 900miles with no lube to the center cavity thanks to a oil delete before it went south at 1400miles total. I know of some that have gone over 4000 miles on stock motor with mods.

i tagged along with a couple of guys riding new polaris 800's....i hadn't ridden with them before, but after an hour or so was happy that they were good riders, and i continued to "tag along"...the leader led us down this canyon that got progressively steeper and deeper until we finally mired to a stop in the bottom of a "v" ravine....took us nearly an hour to get the first poo out, and about 20 more minutes for the second...then they said just one more to go as they started walking back to my machine...i stopped them and said i thought i could get mine out by myself, they didn't think i could, but decided to play along....i started the 1000, got myself set, and buried the throttle...i trenched about 4-5' deep for 50 yards or so, right up the side of this seemingly impossible ravine, layed it around a couple of trees, over a dead one, and out...i've ridden a lot of sleds, nothing else would have pulled that shot with no starting run....i've dropped about 30 lbs from stock, ported, y-piped, fuel controller and clutching, speedwerx tunnel dump can....runs with or better than any pump gas turbo, 800 or 1000, except on a road at the very top end, where they generally have longer legs....but mine always comes home under its' own power (knock on wood)

Helped a friend with the top end on an '07 1000. 4100 miles and piston's looked great. He's only used cheap Yamalube since day one b/c he bought cases of it years ago. Now I question myself for buying Amsoil for the last 10 years?
