He says the Cat rep told him that "since the crank is 4lbs lighter, it will not hold up to the HP of a turbo. Don't turbo them. Stick with the 2009 or older if you want to turbo. "

Hmmmmmmmmmm

I bought an 09 last month just for this reason. Not sure if the 2010 will hold up, or not, but I felt more comfortable hanging a turbo on the 09 or earlier.

Time will tell!!!!!!:beer;

Hey Scott,

Rode with Jared from Boondockers this last weekend with a 2010 turbo cat ran miles and miles on it and it's a screamer with tons of torque and power with no issues.

Hey Snobrat, that's good to know. How many miles does he have on it?
BTW, you have an 800 that I need.

Dealers are like bad hangovers....very few are worth it...

Keep a tab on that 10' I got a buddy who has been asking the same question as to whether or not he should dump a turbo in it. When Jared reaches about 800 miles an update on the motor's condition would be cool..

I know the local cat rep very well and can guarantee that he didn't and wouldn't say that.

Yeah....I don't know the rep, but after listening to this dealer...I did WAY more listening that talking. LOL

Ive been pondering the same thing myself. I wonder how the RTR will hold up. With the M8 revamped and the M1000 offered in one model the 2010s dont look very appealing for turbos.

if a guy realy wanted to find out how they hold up they should be asking Burandt or Rasmussen.

Over 600 miles on ours, all turbo miles, no issues, and there is no doubt it out performs the 2009s.

Really?? Thats awesome.. If anythings going to go wrong it will happen in the first 500-1000 miles for sure! I'm glad to hear that. I'm gonna pass this along to my buddy in Evanston and tell him to go for it!:D:beer; Can't wait to ride it next season.. He's got it racked for the year.

My problem with the lightweight movement (which is great) is that of all the places to lighten up your sled, why the crank? They should take a page from Skidoo and realize what a warranty and service nightmare an issue like that could become.

Think you all need to take a closer look at the new cranks. The weight loss has not changed the structural integrity of the crank. It just eliminated excess metals that weren't doing anything anyway (other than adding weight to the rotating mass).

i tend to agree...the cat bottom ends have been tough in the past...they probably have considerable room for trimming and still be just as tough...i can get punched in the nose buy someone with three fingers and still bleed like crazy..

I like your analogue:beer;.

Looking at the cranks I would think the 2010 engine would take a turbo better than the earlier models. Less rotating mass equals more rpm. They never said they weakened the crank, they made it lighter! Sculpting the counter weights is way past due on these engines.

I know...but the DEALER said........:)
