Loading Sleds into a Pickup Bed- What Ramp to use?

Does anyone make a loading ramp specifically for loading sleds into the back of a pickup. If not, what kind of ramp does everyone use?

I use one of the tri-fold aluminum ramps. Not too wide after you fold them for transport so it can sit beside the sled. I put thin plywood on the two parts that the skis run up on and left the middle one as is for the track to grip on.

Lifting them works great when you have someone to help, but for the times when I am alone it would be nice to have a ramp.

I've been looking for either a bi-fold or a tri-fold ramp... Are 6's too steep? I know with a deck longer = better...

i use a home made one with 10' ramps

2 place trailer tows behind it just fine. works pretty good when you got 3 riders , only thing is i got a regular cab and with riding gear it gets cramped, for short 1 hour trips its fine but anything longer i need a big duffel and we put the bag in the back of the truck.

you can make a ramp pretty easy, one thing i would suggest is u use some kind of glides or something on the ramp so the ski carbides dont grab into the ramp and make your track just spin.

I have a Cabelas extra wide tri-fold with trailer slides riveted to the outter two sections. Works very well but it is a little short depending on the ground. You just have to park the truck so the tailgate is point down instead of up. At home i put the rear wheels of the truck in the gutter and it works great.

years ago, when I drove a little half ton, 2x, I used to use two 2x6's with ski glides screwed to the tops. I had a 2x4 on one end of each plank to keep the whole thing from sliding forward, over the tailgate. The truck was low enough to the ground that I didn't even put anything between the two planks. The skis would go up and the track would eventually grab the tailgate and pull itself up.

It was pretty redneck, but it worked and cost me pretty much nothing.

If you use the trifold or any type of ramp make sure that you use a couple of ty down straps to hold the ramp from kicking out . When the skis get in the pickup bed the track can push the ramp away from the tailgate and the sled could end upside down on top of the rider. I've seen this happen more than once and it can hurt you, Ken.

another tip is to get a 16" piece of 2x10 or 2x12 lumber. Use a couple of L brackets in to hold it in place on the tailgate. Drive the track over it and park on it.

When you have to remove the ramp, the track is 2 inches off the tailgate. The ramp pulls right out without the sled sitting on it. I have hurt my back trying to lift the back of the sled and remove the ramp at the same time.

This tip got me a 2 year subscription to Snowest because they featured it in one of their magazine issues last winter.

if no snow bank is in sight. call your buddies ;)

x2, I even dug out a "loading ramp" next to our garage with the bobcat this summer so I don't have to deal with trying to get a buddy to come help me.

all I have to do is back my truck up to the dug out, and drive my sled right into the truck, it is also great for loading and unloading heavy things, because there is no incline, it is nice and level.

Build one,it's easy. Two 2x4's on edge against the wheel wells, lay a 4x8 sheet of 3/4 plywood on top, build a ramp to fit under it,put some traction on the ramp, maybe some ski guides and no more back breaking.Used this for years.

I have a lifted truck and needed a ramp longer than 90"+ so I bought a nice bi-fold ATV ramp off this dude on eBay, fitted it with some Superglides and it works like a champ. Whole setup cost me less than $250.
