Lightweight Hood

So BDX just came out with a lightweight hood center section for the proclimb 800 with a integrated air intake. Supposedly 12lbs lost without a headlight That would be pretty substanial on the front heavy 1100t. I wonder if they will build one for the 1100t?

I know that C3 is making a carbon fiber one. It is out of my price range that I want to spend. Diamond S makes a mesh one but takes alot of the lines away from the sled. Anyone know if skinz has something coming?

I know mountain fit hoods is making a head light deleat but it is going to have two small lights about 1" or 2" so you can get home if it gets dark. Same as they make for the M sleds. I'm sure it will loss around 10 lbs and probely not cost that much

I would like to lose the headlight but retain the stock look. So the windshield can stay in the stock location. I have the 1100t so I would mesh the headlight area in and put my air intake in there.

Not sure if 12lbs would be that noticeable on the front of this machine. I'm thinking that upping the power with EVO turbo upgrade would be a better place to throw the benjamins! Plus those aftermarket hoods aren't the most appealling anyhow.

12lbs may not be hugely noticeable. But it would be definately better. I am going to do the EVO 215 remap anyways. I would love ot do the BC 250 kit but I don't think I could get the wife to agree to that.

skinz makes a float plate now maybe that'll help push up this beast a lil better. Do you think that dropping the suspension will help the sled roll up better sure fought the hell out it out west last year when the snow turned to mashed potatoes on us. Oh yeah its always better to ask for forgiveness than permission!

I'm going to drop the front skid like the 13's. I already put the float plate on my sled. I am putting a divorced down pipe on as well as a 2.5 muffler on. These things along with other things already done last year like the vertical steering and 38 Stance and light battery and mds clutching. Should be up 40 go and down 40 lbs. once I get a lightweight hood. O yeah I forgot about the pilot ds skis and 156 camp extreme.

Skins just came out with a lightweight hood today

Skinz has a hood in the works. It is posted by Sled Solutions in the Proclimb section. Really nice looking like all their stuff. BTW, anyone doing a headlight delete check with off road rider on this board. He makes an HID headlamp that is much better than any head light and has small LED headlights that attach to the bar that throw off much more useable white light than stock head lights too and are less than 2lbs all in.

With the evo big chute the float plate won't help cuz the front of the sled is off the ground anytime you hit the gas

Got to get out of the throttle sometime. . . .

I decided I would just build my own. it seems as though the common idea right now for the lightweight hood is a lightweight center plastic section. I ordered a new one that I am going to drill a million holes in and cover it in mesh. Leave the headlight out and cover that opening with mesh and put a new air intake in that area.

Hood mod

So maybe not the extent I went to but mine has a different center section with frogskin and the headlight is now the intake plenum with more frogskin. You have to structurally replace the headlight as it holds the plastic up that the windshield and guages bolt to....also strong enough if you are a roll over kind of guy like I am.

Yep. . . Gottya on the headlight supporting it. I plan to make a aluminum frame to hold it up. You should post some pics of yours.

I never ended up weighting it, was too pumped to get out and ride it after all the work. My guess is 10-12 lbs.

I have kinda put the hood aside for now. I am unsure what I want to do. I have thought of a couple things but I am afraid that I will not yeild much weight loss. I did once build a mesh hood for a ski doo s-2000 chassis summit I had. I am kinda thinking about going down that road instead. I know it will be light. I know I can drop likely 14lbs with it. I know that it will allow a ton of heat out. I know it will not look as cool as the stock hood does. . . . but 14lbs off the front of this sled will be substanial about would bring my total weight loss just with big components into the 45lb range.

Battery -12lb
exhaust -12lb
Floats -4lbs
mesh hood -14lbs
wheels out of skid -2lbs
tailight/snowflap -1-2lbs

I managed to break the lens on my tailight last year so I pulled it off the sled tonight. I also pulled off the snowflap. I would bet between these two things a guy could have a 5lb snowball back there. THe taillight would hold snow, the snowflap would hold snow and when stuck left nowhere to grab onto the bumper. Also removed the wheels in the skid last night, found one broken. These likely held more snow in the skid as well. I plan to pull the suspension apart and powdercoat all aluminum. Should help with keeping the snow from making a giant 30lb snowball in the suspension. Also thinking about wrapping the inside of the tunnel with an adhesive plastic film to keep the snow from sticking.

HEre is a pic of the tunnel without the tailight. Looks so much cleaner. I am going to mount a small LED taillight right under the seat in the back. Should be slick.

Look good what snow flap do you have now?

Riught now It is just a piece of scrap HDPE that I had laying around. I am going to make a new one though. Thinking of porting the crap out of it. Should be nice with no area for snow to stick to it.

Here is my first snowflap. I am thinking I will find a design to trace onto it and Drill the design. Should be ported out like crazy. It is light and will not hold snow. Also should not get sucked up in the track.

How do you know it will not suck up into the track? Just askin, cause I bought one last year from a paid sponsor here and it sucked up and after sending the replacement for the one that sucked.
