Lightining up an apex

I dont have money for a turbo so i want to lighten up the beast. Im building a lighter cooling system, building a new back half for the tunnel, already put an exhaust on it. what else can i do for some what cheap to lighten this thing up. i have heard of a lighter battery, and was thinking of doing a polaris raw design seat. but any input would help.

IMHO, you are better off selling the Apex and putting the money that you would have spent on mods, into a Nytro or another brand that is lighter instead. I had an Apex and looked at the costs of making it lighter and after what I considered to be about 3k in mods (timbersled rear suspension, boss seat, exhaust, etc.) I sold mine and bought an M8, which is over 100 lbs. lighter from the factory.

Not bashing Yammies weight or anything else, I loved the power and 4 stroke, I personally got tired of the weight.

Just my .02

Yeah i hear ya about the other sled being lighter but i got the apex for 4000 delivered and it only has 500 miles on it. the cooling set up is gonna cost around 50 bucks to build, already did the exhaust (huge weight savings) got free lightweight body pannels, and can get a polaris raw chassis seat for 150 bucks ( again huge weight savings). I also have all the tooling to build a different rear skid, which would be a lot cheaper than payin for somone else to build it. And being into the sled so cheap i can always turbo it when money allows and be way under the price of a new stock sled. so i have been trying to balance the pros and cons. i am also a little bit of a bigger guy so the stock weight hasnt been to bad.

apex diet

exman:

you did the big 3; seat, exhaust, skid. next fairly big chunk would be chromo a-arms, aluminum spindles, and float 2's or evol r's. mpi stuff works well; good weight savings but still durable. after that, it takes a lot to do a little. just curious, where did you find lightweight panels?

i know and help the owner of mtn fit hoods. i come help him and he either pays me or lets me work off producy ( which is better for me cause im not spending money in the wifes eyes) i did black side pannels with a red vent kit and am working on a red cloth hood, its gonna look good. The pannels didnt save a huge amount, but every little bit helps and i have the stockers in perfect shape if and when i decide to sell it. he also just got his cnc mill up and runnin so i might try some billit suspension parts, again its not that bad price wise if you dont mnd doin the work yourself.

Wow that site helped a lot. i do have a few questions about some of the mods. When you remove the bogeys, which ones are they. And when roving the battery to under the seat, what does it take to do it. any pics would be awsome. thanks again

I removed all the out side and inner wheels on the skid(small ones)
Mount a set of ski scratchers to take care of the hifax.
Battery I'm not too sure on haven't done that mod yet.
Timbersled parts are light weight and a great way to save weight.
Rear bumper is steel change it over to alloy

Ok that sounds goo. im planning on buildng a new back half for my tunnel so i will get rid of the steel bumper. im just not sure what thickness to make it out of, cause im building the drop bracket into it. On ty4stroke i saw the pics of your exhaust. i noticed you cut the tunnel back a little bit further, and looked like you were doing a carbon fiber cover for the opening, am i correct of am i way off. i appreciat the help.
