lighten up m10 or...

Ok. So I have read about every m1 vs. m8 thread on snowest and i still cant make up my mind. I only ride in Cooke City so if anyone has a suggestion between the two for riding in that area please inform me! the 09 m1's are a little more than i want to spend, so should i buy an 09 M8 that wont get much done to it this year, maybe exhaust. (i really dont know what else to do to it other than wait until i can afford a turbo) or an 08 M1 and try to lighten it up by getting diamond s hood exhaust, and rkt's head and porting. (i can get pretty sweet deal on the 08 m1 with 0 miles thats why i can spend the extra on parts.)

any thoughts or suggestions would be great thanks.
David

I really think it comes down to rider weight, if you weight more then 180 then go with the M1000. Also if your going to turbo it in the future will you go race gas or, pump gas? Oh and how many days a year do you ride? Race gas aint cheap!

I myself would aim for pump gas with 50 days a year and would never spend that type of money on a PG TM8. Theres just NOT enough HP for the price of going PG turbo 800. The PG TM1000 on the other hand would be AWESOME!:beer;:cool: Maybe even affordable.:confused:

Modded M8 = YES!:D
PG M8 = NO
RG M8 = If some one else is paying for the race gas YES!

Modded M1000 = YES!
PG M1000 = YES!!!:p
RG M1000 = If some one else is paying for the WHOLE SLED WHEN I WRECK IT! HAHA HEHEEELLLL YEEEEEEESSSSSS!!! Other wise NO!:(

^^^^^^ I have to agree with what was said above. If you weigh more you will be happier with the M1000. I weight 225 and love the M1000. My wife has a M8 that is a blast to ride but with my weight the 1000 is the way to go. PG TM1000 that would be awesome!:D
IMHO:beer;

ok well with all my riding gear and maybe a brick or two in the backpack id probly be at 180 lbs. :cool::beer;

get the m1. then put a 1200 top end on it and have a beast that doesn't need the tuning that a turbo sled would. i actually run an 800 that has more compression built into it and it needs 50/50 pg rg to run in the flats but above 5000ft it can run just pg. i kinda think that is the best of both worlds cause you get the extra power on the hill where you need it and for the little bit of flat land riding i do, i can handle the 7 buck a gallon race gas. probably only bought about 15 gallons all of last year.

If you can ride both for a day. Many people say the 1000 gets heavy after a entire day of chasing 8's through the trees. It's tough to lose much weight from the 1000 when most of it's in the motor. All the weight you lose on the 1000 can be lost on the 8 with the same parts.

Wrong..
In 09 the m1 is 15lbs heavier with all the same parts as a m8 but you loose more weight faster on the m1, the pipe set drops 16lbs on a m1 and only 8lbs on the m8.
I bought mine for 9,900 jan/ 07/ 09 thats cheaper than some dealers where selling m8's, If your going to buy new get the 09 either way, you will spend more making a 08 a 09 then just buying the 09.
I have my sled weighing around 460lbs without gas, its rated over 195hp and I've only spent an extra 1,500, very easy to through around. If you bought a 09 m8 put on a slp pipe, db box and ported it you would be a close to my sled because of your weight I weigh 210lb bare.

In cook city these are the results I've seen
a stock 09 m1000 beats a m8
slp piped m8 runs with or beats m1
slp piped and ported m8 stomps a m1
slp piped m1000 beats ported m8
pg m8 walks away from all of them.
all where 162's which is what you want for cooke

For sure get a 09 or newer even if used.

Your light enough you'd love the M8 but if your a motor head and like HP more than light weight, go with the 1000!:beer;

The PG TM1000 would be even better!:D

I LOVE my mod M8's! I bought a mod M1000 for the backup sled this year!:rolleyes: I'll see how the M8 does against the 1000. Might end up turbo-ing the 1000 if the M8 highmarks it.:cool::beer;

sounds like you got more money than he does

if i were you (i was in a similar spot last year that you are now), i would get the m1000. it has more potential. you can lose weight quickley and gain horsepower quickly

edit: get the 09 though, much more sled than the 08

Wow I just looked into the SLP M1 pipe and can. That's crazy that you can save 16lbs. What's the stock exhaust system weight on that thing 35lbs.? Thx for pointing that out.

the stock can alone weighs 22lbs, If you put a pipe on this sled I highly recommend egts. and I would install the egts first get some reading and then install the pipe.

haha wow you guys a tons of help. (at spending more of my money) haha ok so it sounds like the m1 is the way to go. i am for sure getting a 162 but back to price. is the price difference in standard m1 and snowpro m1 worth it? different front shocks and color schemes? what else? cuz ill just buy the standard if thats all it is? unless of course im told otherwise.
thanks for the help so far!

Go with the standard, not worth the extra coin. use the money for extras that make a diff.

I wasn't tellin yuh to buy two sleds! I was just saying the more hp the better!

You should be able to find a '09 M1000 162 standard for around 8-9k. I bought my modded M1000 for 4,200 and could be turbo'd for under 10,000. So choose wisely! There's deals to be had!
