LIBERTY?? Any good?

Went up Cooke Canyon yesterday.....snow was pretty hard and getting thin.....the access from Cooke up to the top is all Southern faces, and we didn't go all the way up.

We ran into a gate and a sign that said "DNR Boundry area". Don't know what that meant, but didn't ride around the gate. (although from the looks of it we were the only ones that didn't)

Bagger,

Just thought I would let you know that riding on DNR managed lands is legal.

We sent out a SAWS alert in August regarding WA Dept of Fish and Wildlife proposed rule changes that would have restricted sleds to roads on all WDFW managed lands, but the new rule was not implemented, due mostly to all of the letters that you all wrote opposing the change. Thank you!!

Dave,
So any idea what's up with the signs? These looked brand new, and with us only being about a mile west of the closed elk area up Clockum I thought maybe it was related.

I did think it was pretty crappy that they nailed the signs to trees. Dealing with Forest Service as much as I do I KNOW how much they like that. Thanks for the info, and I'll see what I can discover about the deal and let you know.

The whole clockum area is pretty much dont to very little snow. A bit of snow in the trees that is all set up...with the warm weather on the mountain last weekend it will be terrible until more snow hits.

DNR signs have been posted in the Clockum and on the south side of Blewett East of Reecer Creek areas for over 20 years! Many of the signs are old and almost unreadable. There are use restrictions durring the non winter months. Example..there are trails that allow dirt bikes but NO motorized vehicles are allowed on DNR land other than snowmobiles during the winter. Also the East side of Clockum Pass road is "out of bounds" for snowmobiling..it is on the trail maps! You may not see any signs there that reflect that either.

On the Blewett side the DNR boundry has a single thick with fence(no barbs) the top of the wire is slightle above the snow level in many areas so watch out for it when going back and forth across it.

I wanted to go hit it, but wasnt sure of the Snw Pck? Anyone been up there latey??
Was above it on Sat. .....Liberty area is very low elevation...approx 1800 ft. and typically has thin snow coverage. It is real thin at this time and very hard. You can pretty much plan on a very hot running sled around that area..not much for good riding around there anyway
