Lets talk socks.... which have you found to be effective?

We ride in real cold up here sometimes. (Well I do--down to 30 below)

I've been using a two sock system that works awesome. An over-the-calf lighter weight smartwool sock with a Polar Fleece sock over it. Even at really cold temps my feet stay warm. I've been wearing Polaris riding boots.

Also my feet are prone to sweating so a little trick I use for winter is spray my feet with anti-perspirant. Looks silly doing it but works awesome.

Dry, warm feet = happy rider

Best deal to keep your feet warm is to not wear cotton socks. Cotton does not have any insualtion value nor wicking action. Your best bet is to wear polypropolene liners next to your feet with a wool or wool/polypro mix on top of that for insulation. If you do not like to wear two pairs of socks the obtain a sock that has the wool/polypro combination.

Polypro will wick the moisture from your feet and transfer it to the next layer, (just like body wear). Then the wool will keep your feet nice and toasty, even when wet. Wool is the only natural fabric that will insulate when it is wet.

Since I rep for Thorlo, I will say buy Thorlo socks, however, any of the mid to upper end brands will work.
