Lets talk about an older sled 02 800 SUM X I got smoked

Love my sled but this weekend I got pulled pretty badly by an 800 edge pollaris that was stock. My sled will get him out of the hole but up a hill and after 35 miles an hour its all over. I have slp pistons, slightly shaved head, can, 16 w 151 track with big wheel. Stock jets. Clutch was just setup with a heal clicker kit but I think my problem lies in the clutch. I don't feel like the machine is using all its power after about 4 seconds. Its also hitting 8500 to 9000 on the tac. I have 19 43 gears. Stock, should I try 20 or 21 top gear or should I adjust the clutch. I'm pretty happy with the sled other than feeling like I can more power to the track or more track speed. The snow conditions had good hookup and the polaris had a 144 15w track. We raced up a 100 foot fairly step hill and by the time we got to the top he was at least a sled length ahead of me. I wouldn't really care if it was close. I think this is also why on some of my climbs I don't feel like the sled it getting up on top and pulling like it should.
Any help would be apprecaited. I'm 230lbs the guy I raced was 175lbs. I think this made a little bit of the diffrence but not a full sled length.

too high rpms

you need to drop your clicker until it runs at about 8200 rpms because right now its over revving and you are losing alot of hp. Running at 8500+ you should drop 2 clickers if possible

Your clutching is waaaaayyyyyyyy off. Early 800s dropped dead at 8001 rpm. 7900 was the sweet spot. Polaris's seemed to climb better than most Doos as I remember. Revs fixed that. Your only making about 134-136 hp as I see it. RKT head and porting will make a huge difference.

RPM's are To High

You need to run at 8250 on the stock tach (It reads 150high).

Your most effieicint on clicker 3, get a new primary spring and get rid of those damn heel clickers, they don't work worth spit on a climb.

Your gearing is good, as above , change your spring , dump the heel clickers. If your still pulling above 8200 rpm you will need to add some pin weight...anything over 8200 is loseing HP. Dino:)

I am having good luck with a heel clicker kit in my 04 Rev. I would not be so quick to ditch it, but you need way more weight on your clutch arms. At 8500+ you are way down on power. If you don't have pin inserts, I would try adding weight to the shoulder using the parts in your kit. Keep adding until you can't pull over 8000. You will be making way more power at this RPM. Get the clutch right and the RMK won't be a problem.

Yep, just add a little more primary weight. It's not the primary spring, if the spring was shot you would have trouble getting RPM.....the opposite problem.
Run that thing at no more than 8100 on a climb, 8200 on the flats.

50 lbs is a pretty "big" differance in weight.
You only lost by 1 sled length,Chosing a better line would make a differance also.
Swap sleds once and see witch sled wins then.
Not trying to be an *** just being realistic.

Get your 'r's down like everyone else said and that will help. I'm sure you are a good rider, but remember the sled is only 50% of the team.:beer;:beer; Just havin fun with ya. Good luck.

Much Much Better Now Power To Track

Picked up the sled tonight from the shop. Took it back to the guy who rebuilt it. He took care of me pretty nice guy. He got me a used clutch that was setup for my sled and boy did it make a difference. When I was picking it up a guy pulled up with a 06 800 RMK. I asked him if he wanted to race so I could really see if it hooked up better. He weighs around 145 I weight around 235 to 245 depending on the day and I took off and left him the first time by 2 sled lengths. Only racing about a football field. The second time I got him by about 1 1/2 lengths. Machine pulls hard now. I also let him take off once and I then passed him. Now I just have to go find that stock 02 800 RMK and redeem myself.

4M Courtesy Issue here ........

You got the results, but didn't let us know what was changed, Definete violation of 4m Protocol ;) You asked, we answered, you got the results.........

What R's are you running now, and what primary set up was changed????

Now my motor went

This Skidoo almost wants me to switch but I think I can break any sled. Is there a sled out there I can ride hard and put away wet. Clutch is still not that good thought it was but the guy took me again today who had the 02 but we switched sleds and the 70lbs diffrence made all the diffrence. We switch he wins. But on the way back my motor went. Only after 900 miles on rebuild.
