Let's be honest girls, does the super steep hills scare you??

Just when there's thick trees. When I know I have to go down somewhere that funnels into trees or is scattered with trees and it's slick, I get myself worked up before I even get to it. If it's open I'm not worried about it. When it's slick and you do your best to get around and over the trees but you just get sucked into them and can't slow down, that bothers me. There's one spot especially- slopes right down into a gully full of big trees. Went over a hill and started down not knowing what was there. I was cussing all the way down. But I made it, and now I'm not as worried about that spot. If I know what's coming and I get worked up about it it's usually worse than if I'm just riding and taking it as it comes. I don't like not knowing what's in front of me, but I seem to do better if I don't know.

Although I'm a fairly new rider, my friends are surprised that hills don't scare me more. So long as I have a good runout coming down, steep doesn't bother me. Now if I had to ride down an ice chute with trees on all sides and bends in it, that'd be a different story. There is one ride that I have avoided just because everyone tells me that is exactly what you come down! ;) Going up is fine provided I know that I've got that runout coming down and that I know there's a decent flat spot at the top to get my bearings.

Going down does suck. :o Typically it's down through the tight trees dodging them, then at the bottom you do a sharp turn or go over an embankment that will wreck you and your sled.

I did one last year that I was nervous as heck about, but I still did it. There were two guys from another group behind us. The one guy somehow got stopped, yelled at us and his riding partner that we sucked.....he didn't want to wreck his sled....etc, etc. Gave me great joy to pull off my helmet (didn't have any pink stuff that day), and stand there with a big grin and my pigtails. ;)
