Lefthand throttle on Apex

I could use a little help here guys. I took the lefthand throttle off of my dad's old sled (99 Mtn Max) and want to install it on the '06 Apex Mtn.. How the heck are you guys mounting them.? There doesn't seem to be enough room on the bars and the throttle flippers are a totally different shape than his last sled.

Please post some pics of both sides if at all possible. I hate to buy another setup if I can make this one work somehow.

Thanks

Come on guys. I know there are a bunch of you using them. Help me out a little.

Are you mounting the lever over the grips? Shoot me some pics of how your looks on the sled.

I have a Dirty Hairy lever and it is too small to mount over the grips and there isn't enough room on the bars to mount direct. It is the same lever as the Goldfinger.

the apex i rode this year that we just sold had a goldfinger on it and it was mounted on the grip. i dont have a pic of it though sorry.

I have a dirty harry on mine. Pics in a sec..

Here we go. Phone pics.. Sorry.. I didn't mount it. I bought it this way soooo... I dunno what he did.. HTH

Thanks for replying guys. I wasn't feeling much love.LOL

Bauer,

Does it look like I have to modify the housing next to the Dirty Hairy? I can't seem to make it fit without cutting apart the housing that has the grip warmer and hi/low beam switches. More pics would help. I could also use some pics of the other side (throttle setup). I think I know what needs to be done, just would like to confirm before I start cutting.

Keep posting pics.

Thanks for the help guys. We are on a budget buildup.LOL

I can't tell if he had cut anything... But I didn't see it stock so I'm not sure.. I'll try to get better pics tomorrow. But I will say however he did it, it played hell with the TORS. If your going to do it plan on a bypass and teather, code 84 was frequent and annoying..

Ive done two. The first one I moved the controll block over and had to trim a little plastic. Then I also had to machine the hinged mount for the lever so it was narrower. Then on the right side I made a metal bracket that I rivited to the top of the flipper. It worked fine, but took over a day to build/install and I think I ended up with around 30.00 in it with parts from the bike shop.

The second one was a Gold finger. Didnt move or adjust anything. Mount the lever right over the outside of the grip. The bracket on the flipper mounts to the bottm side. Took 20 minutes to install and cost 87.00

Gold finger is the way to go. Eric

Did you have any problems with the TORS? I had problems on my RX-1, but not on either of the Mtn Maxes. I just disconnected it on the RX-1 and went with a tether.

Mine can with one on it, but it looks like he slid the handwarmer assemble in toward the center of the bars to make room. Mine threw the TORS error sparodically, so I disconnected it and installed a tether.

Its a fine line between getting full throttle with the lefty and keeping the TORS from kicking in. The adjustment needs to be right on. I keep the TORS hooked up and leave just a little slack in the lefty cable. You cant quite get WOT but its very close and most times you dont need WOT when your using the lefty. Eric
