LEFT HAND THROTTLE OR NOT?

Ok guys. What is the general concensus on this. I am thinking of putting one on my sled.
Can someone put up a poll so we can see the results?

Thanks

On what sled??? On a new nimble sled I don't think they are necessary. For an older style sled they were needed more because you had to really reach to make a sled sidehill, turn, and carve in tight spots.

Left handed throttles are a joke. You don't have control of your sled unless both hands are on the handle bars. They are for basic mountain riding riding.Learn how to sidehill properly and you will have more fun. You will have more leverage with both hands on the handle bars. I also think they are extremely dangerous. I have seen more wrecked sleds from left handed throttles than about anything else. Left handed throttles and sidehill bars are the reason a lot of people can't sidehill very good.

I made one for my old Vertical Escape and never used it once, it also had a pin in it. The only time I can see needing one is on spring (hard) snow side hilling across a slop that is down hill from left to right.

They are a joke, just like the risers half of you have on your sleds!

I cant count the number of times we've seen handle bar risers that put the handle bars up where trees/limbs have a much better chance of hitting the stock throttle lever or cable! Or the stupid riser rolls back in a simple roll over and pins the stock throttle!

A riser is just as dangerous as any lefty! Yet you have no problem with them, do you?

It's personal preference, if you like it put it on.

LEFT HAND THROTTLE OR NOT? Reply to Thread

I vote NO, I had one for two years used it once. Saw a guy unload from his trailer lefty stuck wide open just missed a truck coming at him and if not for his superior riding skills by laying it over on his side and riding between two parked vehicles and trailers he and his sled would have been F'ed up bad.

I say yes to lefty!

Why would a lefty be more prone to stick than your main throttle? Isn't that what a tether is for anyway?

I remember a few years back some "pro" stated the lefty was a crutch and you should always keep your hands on both sides of the bar. Now to see people repeat it like the gospel is laughable.

Sometimes the trees get so thick I can only reach the left throttle!

Not having a lefty does not make you a better rider...it just makes you a rider without a lefty? :face-icon-small-win

I recommend the lefty goldfinger by full throttle inc...great product and even better customer service!

I have leftys on my sleds and can go places and do things I could not do without one but my skills are limited. I do agree with the comments about the dangers of them though. One use that is never pointed out is being able to give your right thumb a rest on a long trail ride to get to the good stuff. If you do buy one make sure it has a lock out pin.

And big wheel kits....pissin' money down the drain....not dangerous but definitely a waste (IMO)...but I'm sure someone can tell the difference over stock in track speed with this mod..lmao

My thoughts exactly! Dont use it very often, but when you need it....you REALLY need it....if you know what i mean :)

Plus being able to use my lefty on the trail for a little relief sometimes is great! Adding a tether is advisable though.

I have all three of these mods on my sled. Do they make me a better or worse rider? I dont know! But I guarentee they make my sled look cooler than a stock sled!:face-icon-small-hap

Big wheels, Ape hangers and 2 throttles! COME ON, THATS BAD A$$!:yell:

Lefty throttles = better have full coverage insurance

Seriously..
i've witnessed...

backing up, go to pull brake and squeeze a handful of lefty throttle right into a tree.. $1200 later my buddy was back riding.. but still with a sore back

I'm not repeating squat as gospel from anyone. I've said this way before I heard it from Chrissy B!

The lefty sticks because you don't use it as often, also it's on the same side as the brake & can be hit by accident. It also is not as smooth a mechanism as the stock throttle, OBVIOUSLY there is more to go wrong.

I've personally seen 2 sleds destroyed by lefty's & know of MANY more... easy choice imo.

A buddy was asking about one a couple years back, then the next weekend he saw one slam into a truck in the parking lot, he quickly understood why many of us recommended against!!!

Work on technique, or lift some weights. With the weight & flickability of todays sleds, lefty's are a mod best left on the shelf in the garage where they work best.

Some swear by it. I have never used one and never had the need for it. I've dove into some pretty steep drainages and been in tight trees and never not been able to grap throttle. Sometimes it's a little harder than normal but always doable. But God gave me really long arms. None of my friends that ride with me often have em either. I can't bash the Lefty, it works for some. Some hate it.

Hey, I got 9" weels on my sled and yes-they are a waste of money.
Just like all who drive around with their cars with 19-20-21-22" (and the list goes on) weels. They fill absolutely no function at all-other then looks.
Since I like the looks of 9" alloy weels om my sled, I think they do have a function, so dont come here and compare a hazard if used wrong with something that is just for looks!
