leaking read seals

Hey guys, i hear are sleds are real commen to have the reeds leaking air. I was greasing her up and noticed the rubbers are folding over, the boots are not cracked. I even went as far as spraying brake clean to see if the engine would idle up.

Heres a pict of whats happening.

is this a problem or are they all like this?

don't risk it. go to dennis kirk, order the 2 boots at $21 a piece and replace them. when mine looked just like that I could stick my finger through the opposite side.

lean is mean.... causes your engine to run hot and could cause permanent damage!

I've seen them in the catalog but can't seem to find them on their web site. Let me see if I can find my old catalog and I will get you the part number you need then you call just go to their web site and type that in.:face-icon-small-ton

they don't have good ratings on dennis kirk there, but you only have 3 options:

1. these

2. OEM that is just as terrible and cost over $80 a piece.(its just overall bad design. my kimpex ones sealed good though, I would rate them 4/5 overall)

3. the overall best option is the boyesen Rage cage, which does not have rubber glued to aluminum like the other options. comes with new boyesen reeds, and sets you back about $300.

if you can afford option 3 go for it, if you just want it to work and accept you may have to replace them in another season or two, go with the $40 option.

Id defently like to go with option 3 with the boyesen reeds, Im just dont know what they will do

Do i need to rejet? will i run lean? any other mods nessasary for the reeds?

I'm honestly not sure about that. heres a few threads about it:

I don't have any links for the same question on snowest, unfortunately. I'm very disappointed with their search function. as you can see it is totally up in the air, judging by everyones reactions i'd say none of them really know how to tune that well and things will run one size off.

throw them on, make sure your not lean after a bit of riding, and have fun!

Dude save your money. Boyesens give you NO hp gain over stock and are a joke. The ONLY benefit it that there is no rubber to delaminate. All the claims v-force and boyesen make on hp are faulse on the rev motors. Stock reeds with a 3/16" spacer (as opposed to the 1/2" stock) and you will gain hp. Now on the 07 800R motor, stock reeds with no spacer. 08+ XP 800R, v-force.

So an $21 per intake boot, you would have to replace them BOTH 7 times to come out at a wash. Looking at you pic it appers to me that you have a what, 04 or 05? That is 6 years old. So say 5 years is the life span we'll give those boots...5 years multiplied by 7 pairs of boots...you get the picture, your sled will be a vintage machine before that will happen.

For those who have fallen sucker to the Boyesen/v-force BS, LOL:deadhorse:

The Kimpex are just as good as the OEM from a quality standpoint. Take that for what it's worth. I had used 20+ of them on REV's over the years with less issue than OEM. The Boyesen may or may not make power but they are built to last and will not let you down. With that said, I can get them for any sled at a decent price.

with kimpex you get all of what you pay for.

with the boyesen kit, they make a good couple dollars on you. I bet they could produce that kit for half that money and they would still make money.... but fact is they fix the design flaw, and you will never replace delaminated boots again.

The kimpex boots are fine, and a great deal for the price when you compair them to the other options.

I replaced the boots on my 04 last year and they worked great, installed a set on my dad's 04 for him over the summer and again they were built well and seemed to the same quality as a stock boot.
