Looks like in the pic the cover is bent? To me it would be hard to bend the case as it is deeper and more rigid? Might as well pull it off and replace both driveshaft bearings? Maybe a thicker or improperly seated bearing in there and tweaking the case when it was tightened? Covers do have the extra hole! Otherwise put some wesson or cheap cooking oil in there, It is thin enough to find the leak.
