Looking to upgrade the viewing area downstairs, looking in the 46-52" range.
Mainly tv/movies/sports viewing. Have read the plasma's are somewhat better for fast action programming like hockey/football etc. Any input?

Picture quality is pretty much all the same. Cheaper LCD can look blurry when there are moving pictures and plasma teh blacks are better. Other then that between LCD,Plasma, DLP, And old Rear Projection size is the main differnce. Plasma will be thinner then a Lcd most of teh time. But plasmas use more energy then a Fridge unless you get them calabrated in your home. Which very few places have the capabilities to do.

my understanding of the debate is lighting!! LCD's don't show much if any glare from natural light, plasma's do. if you are in a dark area with few windows, plasma all the way. in an area with lots of windows, the better choice is LCD. we have a 53" LCD in our living room(lots of windows) and get absolutely no glare. in a theatre room or basement, i'd go plasma, as they tend to be cheaper as well. just my $.03

Lcd works better in lighting and Plasma is like having another heat source in your house.

Plasma also can not be tipped due to the glass breaking.

Unless your a big movie buff with the best HD equipment go with LCD

I like my LCD, and am looking at buying another for the theater room we just remodeled. I've never noticed any blurring from Games being played or movies.... Maybe we just don't watch fast enough though:rolleyes:

Do you have the 120hz version? That might be why. If you have a lesser refresh rate, it'll blur.

Most plasmas cant be used over a certain elevation either. I think most must be under 6000ft. Panasonic has a plasma gaurenteed to 9300ft. 10-4 on the second heat source.

They dont run as hot if you have them calabrated. This will also help with the picture in lighter rooms. If I were to get a new TV it would be a high end LCD or a DLP. If you are not going to hang it on your wall I would just get a DLP save some coin.

Yeaaaaappppp..... there's a few threads on here about this.

LCD = what I'd buy if I were to buy a fancy tv.
Plasma = Hot, don't use at high altitude.

I love my Sony 60" LCD. The picture quality is awesome is HD. Like anything else...you get what you pay for. I had it for 3 years...Zero problems!
