It's still slow and locks up.

8gb RAM

processes.jpg

Which of these can I stop? I'm just trying to figure out why this thing is acting up.

Firefox is using an insane amount of memory. Maybe try switching web browsers to google chrome if it still is slow. Chrome uses a lot less memory.

the only two processes using CPU are firefox and task mgr so none. Click on the performance tab in task mgr and post of pic of it...

It's driving me crazy. I'll be using it and the all of a sudden it'll just lock up and show that little blue spinning circle. It'll go from 30 seconds to 4 minutes and then it'll be fine.

Everything checks out as far as far as I know. I was told to update the BIOS but when I run the HP updates program it comes up with nothing.

I've seen security software do this. Or hard drive going bad. I am not an expert however. No reason to be running slow looking at your two pics, some app or hard drive is like causing this IMO.

Don't know but had this happen when my work laptop hd went bad. Back er up just in case. Try shutting down your security suite and see if I helps....temp of course.

What programs are you seeing the slow down occur with? Internet browsing? Or something else. If you can narrow down what programs are open and what you are doing at the time, it would help.

You also seem to have some HP bloat ware crap running in the background. It doesn't look like it is doing much, but it might help. Post some screen shots of all your installed programs (control panel, add / remove programs).

Also, turn off your internet to the laptop and see if you still have the problem.

Its more than likely your hard drive. Ive also had terrible luck with HP. Had one that shelled out 4 hard drives in 2 years. Luckily Best Buy has a lemon law for there PCs so i got a free replacement. Went with a Toshiba and absolutely love it. Also i have never had any anti-virus software on it, my HP always had something on it.

Is it slow all the time or just the when your on the internet?
Im guessing its Windows 7?

You could try running Disk De-fragment and see if that helps. Or, shut your computer off by holding the power button down till it shuts off, yes i know this is not the right way to do it, then turn it back on and start windows in Safe Mode. If it still acts slow then, chances are its the hard drive.

Have you tried the citrus test?

Simply pour 1/2 cup citrus juice (orange, grapefruit doesn't matter, each work equally well) on the keyboard.

Wait 15 minutes and try to re-start.
If computer does not work at this point, you can rest assured that it is indeed shot & needs replacement.
