Lake Marie tree

Somebody cut a tree down at the bottom of the hill at lake marie & built a fire with it. This is wrong in so many ways! 1st it gives us a bad rep.,more ammo for the tree huggers to hate us. 2nd hwy 130 is a scenic hwy, no tree cutting for 300 yds. ethier side of the road. (dead tree or alive). 3rd its another land mine buried under the next few snows in a well traveled area! And just lost a little bit of wind break! Think people! The most important 7 inches on your body is between your ears! idiot!

I saw that on Sunday!! Very inconsiderate and thoughtless!! Even though the beetle kill is severe right now there is NO :yell: need for that kind of selflessness!!! Thanks for picking up the beer cans. You must of gotten there before we did. Sorry for the rant... but if you pack it in, PACK IT OUT!!

I saw that on the 19th when we were out there. Thought the same thing. Of all the trees to choose from they cut down that decent sized tree right there along the road. Surely the weather couldn't have been that bad right there that is was necessary. Don't know the whole story put can't think of a real good reason why either. I didn't stop and look to close. Just climbed the hills a couple times and moved on.

No matter its wrong but in defense of guys that are more experienced. I am willing to bet givin the fact its not off trail far and a stupid thing to do probably some newbies that rented sleds.

I know I will get chit for my point of view. But I dont find it to be a big deal that someone cut down a dead tree. Its a dead tree! That tree being cut down wont change anything for us sleders and land use. I bet that tree would have been cut down sooner or later for safety anyways being so close to the road.
And as for someone hitting the stump, its your fault if you hit it. Dont blame someone for you hit a stump. Theres thousands of rocks and stumps up there. Now for them leaving beer cans. They should have there hands cut off for leaving trash up there. That was dumb!!!! and I would say that to the guys face that did that.

I did see the tree that was cut down over two weeks ago.

It's possible it wasn't sledders. I was up there two weeks ago during the week and saw a number of snowshoers, some were setting-up for overnighters (possibly longer) by the looks of it. The majority of leaf-lickers are hypocrites and also like to "set-up" their adversaries, so just say'n.............:face-icon-small-con

This was my first thought too. Most sledders would try to venture down the trail, even with bad weather, since the most traveled trail is right there. I just don't see too many sledders setting up shop right there.

However, a guy on XC skis or snow shoes would have one heck of a jaunt back down and would be more likely to stay close to the trail to build their fire. Would take too much time for them to find a spot well away from the road.

Either way, it was negligent and likely unnecessary. If they were relaxed enough to drink a few beers, they couldn't have been in harm's way too much. Seems a little sketchy either way.

Newbies who rent sleds don't typically carry saws, let alone saws large enough to cut a good size tree down nor do they carry fire-starting material with them.

If I was going to make a bet on the type of people that cut the tree down to make a bond fire and drink cheap beer. I would bet early 20 year olds form NE. Minn. KS. ND. SD. with short tracks that have sleds that didnt run very good so they built a bond fire and had some beers. Its young guys having fun. Like I write before I didnt see the big deal. Its a big deal now because we are writing about it on a public forum.
It realy never should have been talked about.

If they're leaving trash around then yes, they should be called out on that. I don't have a very high tolerance for stupid **** like that. They packed it in, they damned sure could have packed it out.

My guess...young cocky punks with no self respect or like earlier mentioned people trying to make sledders look bad! Unbelievable...

 sure blame the newbies who carry saws on rental sleds.

I have a hard time believing this for some reason.

Just my opinion but maybe a good idea not to mention names. We are talking about a town of 100 people and this is the internet after all.

Hmm, I've ridden through there two weekends in a row, and didn't notice anything. Well, I guess that's good. Hopefully it won't show too much in the spring, as there are going to be a lot of stumps in that area, and all areas thanks to the MPB.

As a guest traveling in many locales, I've experienced just as much (or more) improper activity from the locals as the out of area visitors... I refer to it as "it's my backyard" syndrome. We are in awe of the place, but to a local, it's just another place, and probably a good place to hang out. I'm probably guilty of the same behavior, I just don't realize it because "it's my backyard."

No matter what activity I do, someone always wants to say that the people doing it are causing damage or some such thing. Truth is that in every case, it's a very slight minority doing things perhaps not so right, and it makes us all look bad. True with EVERY activity I can think of, so I just make sure to point out that it isn't me in the case of the activity in question.

FWIW, Why does nobody out here raise a stink about downhill skiers stripping entire mountainsides bald?? A guy presumably on a snowmobile cuts ONE dead tree and it's oh crap time, but entire mountainsides have been cut for skiing...

Not saying it was right, just that you can't stop everything, and this one isn't worth talking about anymore.
