How's the snow in the Lake City area? Might have a chance to spend the weekend there, and having never sledded there before, was wondering about areas, parking, av danger, all the usual stuff. Any info would be great, and if you don't want to give up the goods on this forum, just pm me.

Hey Jeff -

Lake City has some really good riding. The 2 areas I've ridden in Lake City area are the Slumgullion/Spring Creek area to the south and the Alpine Plateau to the North.

Slumgullion/Spring Creek - Huge network of trails to the south of Lake City. Head over Slumgullion and Spring Creek pass. Several parking areas. We usually park at North Clear Creek Falls, and then ride north up onto the Ramboulet Plateau (Continental Divide) and do a huge loop back to the lot. Rest for a bit, and then head south out of the lot towards Bristol Head (you'll see it, HUGE peak to the south that is all by it's self). Do another loop and then back to the truck. This will take the entire day to complete - allowing time to play and climb where you choose. Go to the Lake City Snowmobile Club's site for maps.

Alpine Plateau - The trailhead is 10 miles north of Lake City. You can ride all the way over the Alpine Plateau to The Inn at Arrowhead. Excellent food and cold beer - say hi to James and Kathleen (owners) and tell them Ryan sent you. Then head back over the Alpine to your vehicles. This is an all day ride as well with plenty of play areas on top of the Alpine. I don't think they have fuel for sale yet, so plan accordingly. www.innatarrowhead.com
