Kurt's Polaris gear down kit failure

Just had Kurt himself install his gear down kit 100 miles ago. Belt was broken in properly. Sled was pulling a hill track never left ground or spun out on anything. Sled is 13 163" with BD turbo at 8 psi bought brand new and built by Kurt.

That is so disappointing. I was looking at this kit as an option for my recent QDS belt failure. I'm running a Silber turbo at about 8 PSI too.

Why? Are you running that system on your sled? I only see Doo systems on his website.

I do not run one on my sled. I will soon as he makes his D&R plate for a pro. He does sell a kit now for the pros its pretty much the same as his doo kit just a tad different.

Do you know if it's a proven reliable kit? I don't want to do R&D for someone. As you can see in this thread, the Kurtis Polaris kit has gone down. I'm not up for spending $900 and having the same issue I have now.

Just because it wasn't hot when it broke doesn't mean that the belt wasn't damaged previously by the heat.

There is a reason why the new BD kits have heat shields for the belt drive.

Did you do a shield for your Silber?

We don't need them. Our exhaust doesn't go anywhere the belt.

Did yours go? I am only aware of a couple failing with the Silber kits.

Yes, today. I think it was on it's way though because I didn't ride much.

On a good note, the Silber ripped!

The Mitsuboshi belt claims higher temp and load ratings.

The size #'s correspond (ie; 720 in Gates is a 720 in Mitsuboshi), Check with your local auto parts store or industrial bearing suppy outlet.

Sorry you broke one...

But that still is one broken belt on a turbo kit that has since been changed to accommodate the belt drive. A turbo alone puts so much more force through the drivetrain and like said before, could have overheated it and damaged the belt prior and just had enough load. Mayby caught something under the snow and didn't feel it because the belt snapped. I'm not discounting this as not a failure, But IMO people have broken many stock belts, and chains before that, in similar situations. One broken belt doesn't tell me the kit isn't reliable.

On a side note: I've never seen the Polaris one break through the cogs. It always seems to be stripping the cogs or breaking between them.

Kurt said himself for me to try to break the belt. He said it would never happen. The belt he sells with his gear down kit is the gates gt carbon. Same belt as the aftermarket kits use. And I have not seen or heard of one of them breaking.
