Ktm 380 custom build

Looks like the same year as my 380MXC. Don't know if they run much better than a 300, but they sure as hell sound better! Bet yours will sing with that shorty on there!

i had a 360 that ,smoke my kx500 , there is no comparison with a 300, open class vs 250 class and the 380s ran a little stronger. i'd love to see this bike on the snow:face-icon-small-hap

Yeah my 380 is all ported/polished and milled to run c12 race gas. Ran a paddle tire a bunch, and it would smoke all the quads in the dunes. So they can be tuned to run.

There's a 380 vs 300 snowbike vid on utube, and they're about even, or maybe even the edge to the 300.

that is surprising my friend had a 300 and my 360 would absolutely smoke it .

Mad Max has well over 50 hours on it this season and still going strong. Just got a yeti ski for it and excited to see if it will turn this bus better in the deep snow. The only major thing that broke so far is a shock bolt that was a design flaw of the HOLZ scissor I used. I have spent some time on my buddies mototrax and this skid feels very similar front to back but doesn't have the side to side wiggle of the mototrax.

I gave up on making the 380 engine scream on top end. I just cranked the compression and made it a torque monster to match the pipe. It works well this way because it doesn't seem to struggle in deep pow but it will be wasted by any 450. I even figured out the jetting for semi-decent fuel economy and anti vib bar mounts help my hands. By choice, I ride it more often than my 350 with the ts sx.

My chain adjustment loosens sometimes so over the summer I plan to rework the side plates with something different. not sure what yet....

The chain cover is clear lexan. I have rolls of it. Plus I like to be able to see the chain and it's open on the sides so helps shed snow and keep chain cool.

The only problem now is the snow is finally set up so now my track is too long. Next year's project will have to be a short track version.

Say hewo to my widdle fwend..

I added this little carb heater that also adds 30% more horsepower. Its an aerocharger made for a harley/buell.
I still have lots of tuning to do. We still have a month of good snow to test in. I am getting deto at high rpm high boost but I was running a 250sx cdi to make it rev better before the turbo. I am going to try the stock CDI this week sometime. I don't want to lower compression much if I don't have to. Variable vane, self oiled, no wires and no computers real simple.

I also added this rear shock.
I didn't want to do this because I was trying to make the long track feel short. But it was necessary to keep the front end down and give pressure on the back of the rails to help floatation in the pow. I removed all of the compression damping so it only has rebound valving and there are 3 positions to mount to the rail to control max extension. Notice the laid down angle makes it really falling rate too so the front rising rate scissor still handles all the bumps and big hits. I want it to have the least effect as possible in the bumps. Its basically a wheelie bar. Its extension is set the back of the track just barely touches the ground when I'm on the bike. My front scissor is sagged out almost half way so in the bumps and dips it can extend 5 inches and soak up stuff that the back of the rails won't even touch. I think the mototrax could be setup this way with a shock added to the rear arm somehow. Over the summer I am going to get some real side panels cut and a full top tunnel built.

Helico did do a shock in the back like that on his MOTOTRAX.
I plan on a similar shock for mine this summer.
I'd like to hear how Helicos worked out.
