Kremmling Area

Making a trip to Colorado in two weeks to ride. We are used to riding in New York and Pennsylvania and i can see this is going to be a whole new experience. Wondering if anyone has any suggestions for us. We will be staying at the Muddy Creek cabins in Kremmling. Wanted to see if anyone has any trail maps or suggestions on where to ride. Also any pointers on where to go and where not to go. Trying to stay safe since we are amateurs to deep snow. Thanks in advance.

I hope it snows a BUNCH before then brother! It's still pretty sketchy! Alpine Motor Sports(Polaris and Cat dealer) is right in Kremmling and is home to VOHK. Pop in the shop and the fellas can hook you up with anything you need. Rabbit Ears is a great area to ride when the snow is good and it's only 25 minutes from Kremmling! But, it is also easy to get turned around due to the lack of a predominate mountain or range to referrence. Hit me up with a PM........I ride a lot during the week and just might be up there to help show you ditch pickles around:face-icon-small-win p.s. PLEASE DONT FORGET AVY GEAR. Beacons, shovels, probes, gps, phone, etc.

rabbit ears

lots of good riding at the ears and a lot of people around to help. ears is usually where i go if i have to ride alone but it also depends on what riding you want to do are you here for the powder and boon docking or for trails? grand lake is not but 1 1/2 hrs i believe from kremmling. but anyways you will have fun and enjoy youre trip SG

Thanks guys.. i sent some a pm. We are looking to stay safe and not get lost. We will most likely stick to the trails as thats what we are used to up north in the Old Forge/ Tug Hill areas of New York.

If you want trails, I'd got to Grand Lake. They have a bigger system and maintain it more. RE's system isn't really that great. The offtrail stuff is awesome but the trails suck.

Agreed

You will only want to ride the trails in the Buff Pass/RE area for about 1 mile. After that 1 mile, your kidneys will be screaming at you to get the hell off the trail!! Most of the time, they are really miserable and all whooped out.

They don't groom much. The Grand Lake guys go out every night. Thats why I'm not a member of the Routt sled club. They really don't do much. Jason Cobb tries but he's gotta take care of his business first. And I don't blame him.

Thanks guys that's what I am hearing.. Looks like we will make the trip to Grand Lake to check things out. Not being experienced with avy gear and the lack of gear is enough to keep us off the mountain without someone who knows the area. Don't want to learn how hard a dig out will be at those elevations not being used to it.

Grand Lake trail riding is the best in the state--but--don't be tempted to high mark upper Gravel Mtn as it has slid 2X this season. You'll be riding 8,500' to 10,000' so make sure your sleds are jetted for the altitude and 1 high altitude beer = 3 at sea level. To avoid altitude sickness drink lots of H2O and take aspirin. GL has some amazing alpine scenery-make sure your camera is fully charged:face-icon-small-win

What sleds are you guys going to be riding on?

I am off work on Monday tuesday an wednesday.
Give me a call I'll see if we can get together
Thanks

The data on the GL drive from Kremmling is inaccurate... it's more like 40 minutes.

There's also lots of lodging/dinning in GL as well as the Spirit Lake Polaris dealer who can work on any brand of sled if needed.

Vail pass is also a great place to ride, they have a good trail system, maps, groom, and the scenery is gorgeous. You can also start out on at Vail Pass off I-70 then head over to Red Cliff for some lunch which is convenient.

We have been riding up there for well over a month now, it has been getting busier but we still manage to get out and not see anyone for hours. The trails have plenty of snow and the meadows are filling in nicely.

I am also use to the Old Forge area, grew up in Newport, NY and Cooperstown, NY area. First year in CO with a sled....no matter where you go, you are going to have the time of your life...10' of snow or 2' of snow...doesnt matter... still great riding.

Bring some 2-way radios if you have them.

Enjoy!
