Koso egt probe issues

I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or if I'm missing parts but I have the clamp on egt probe mounts and the probe is always loose and won't seem to tighten. They fit in the hole of the clamp and I get them where I want as far as depth but when I tighten the compression nut they are still completely loose.:face-icon-small-dis

Anybody else have experience in this?

Probes

These things are a paint in the arss!! I ended up putting the clamp in a vise and then tightened the probe to the clamp. When I tried to get the probe tight on the sled I wrecked the clamp.

The trick I noticed is first get rid the bands and weld them to the y pipe. Next install the probe and tighten. Then you want to start the sled and get them hot before you tighten them down. The only way I could get them to tighten is when their where hot.

sounds like your missing the little round ferrel ring (compression ring)that goes between the nut and probe mount that slides over your probe...weld on clamps are superior but still yours should tighten with that compression ring...i pack the tightening area with high temp silicone prior to tightening..

Do you mean remove the band and weld the probe depth adjuster to the pipe with the compression nut still in place?

Thats the thing, I still have a single cone shaped brass ring under the compression nut but it doesn't seem to do anything when I tighten it.

Thanks for the responses!

Take the bands off the compression threads and weld to the y pipe without the compression nut and brass ferel fitting. Then install the egt probe with the ferel fitting installed correctly and tighten. Before this put antiseeze on the threads. Then start the sled up and wait until the y pipe is hot. Then snug down the fitting once the y pipe and fitting is hot. We say to weld them on because the bands tend to break over time. Also you want to make sure you have the egts installed in the correct location to get accurate readings. 4" from the piston skirt for dual.
