Personally, I would have no problem being around a guy like that in possesion of firearms. I also would have no problem shooting along side of him. I personally feel that a felony crime like that should have no bearing on an individuals rights to keep and bear arms. It actually disgusts me.

I think the other posters suggestions to inform him he cannot legally participate until he can get his ban from owning firearms lifted is the appropriate way to proceed. Not morally the right thing, but the legal one. I think he would understand that him being there might hurt the very thing he helped get started. Jesse.

Felonies...... The person in question MITE have a felony that doesn't restrict him from owning/possessing firearms. There is also the fact that he could've had his rights restored to him via going back through the court system.
For the guys that say it is black-n-white it's actually NOT!! There's lots of grey in these laws. Personally if "said" person came into my gun range I'd ask to talk to him in the back & actually find out the REAL facts of the situation at hand. If you knowingly supply someone who cannot have firearms/ammunition YOU mite end up in the cell next to him!
I personally ride with a guy that had multiple felonies & got ALL of his gun rights restored to him.

Regarding '18 U.S.C. 922(g) is the federal law that prohibits anyone ever convicted of any felony from ever possessing any firearm either inside or outside of his home.'

The statement is both overly broad and overly narrow.
It's too narrow because the general proscription of Section 922(g) is not limited to felons. By its terms, the statute forbids not only "felons" but any person convicted of "a crime punishable by imprisonment for a term exceeding one year" to possess a firearm or ammunition, whether the crime in question is classified as a felony or not.
Section 921(a)(20)(B) limits the impact of this rule on misdemeanors by defining "crime punishable by imprisonment for a term exceeding one year" to exclude any state misdemeanors punishable by less than two years' imprisonment, but any state misdemeanor punishable by more than that will still be treated like a felony.

On the other hand, the statement is too broad because the reference to "any felony" implies that the federal law applies to all felonies rather than most. In fact, 18 U.S.C. 921(a)(20)(A) expressly exempts certain white collar felonies such as antitrust or unfair trade practices.

To take away the right of all felons to have firearms, or in molds case a club;), is obviously ridiculous. I would say this law would be better suited for those who commit a violent crime or a crime involving a firearm. Any law such as this that throws a blanket over such a wide variety of crimes is never a good thing.

When the letter of the law means more than doing the right thing I say screw the law. In my opinion what is just and right should always be the foremost consideration. But this would cause far too many problems for the sheep who cannot think for themselves and need to be told what to do...

It is not that I agree with this law, Lord knows that there are plenty of stupidity to go around!
If you were recreational shooting on your property, I would say hell yes! Nobody's ****ing business, but my point is once you make that decision as the board, you also make it for the members. So what would the repercussions be? I would assume that you would be liable for supplying a felon with a firearm? Idk?
Now that you have supplied more info, do what you can to go through the steps to get him his privileges. Maybe you could get some help from the NRA?
Unfortunately our rights are getting pissed away on a scale never seen before, so instead of bitching about it, the question is, what DO you do about it? Because it seems we are not represented by are elected officials or our vote!

Does he for sure have a felony or is it just a rumor? I would sit down with the guy and just talk to him. Any rational adult would appreciate this and if he really does have a felony, as a rational adult he would understand the situation.

How long ago did this happen ?
He owned a car dealership and had got in financial trouble on his floor plan so he had floored some trucks that were not on the lot anymore. ie, double financed between his operating credit and a auction credit institution. He is a well known business man and a former state champion shooter. His family has been the foundation of setting up our states current high school shooting program, so much so they host a shoot in his name annually that brings 800 shooters to the event.

In all fairness for you "black and white" guys I can only say. Do YOU know anyone personally that has a felony and prohibited from such things? and if so do you KNOW what they did?

I agree with others that say you should take it case by case as there are A LOT of different reasons for a felony. Most of us are not familiar and generalize a felony with robbing a bank, drug dealing, rape, aggravated assault things like that.

I know I have a responsibility to the club but it is a tough call when I read things like this...What about the guy just this week jailed and charged for plugging his hybrid into the middle school? or the guy that wrote a bad check for more than 500.00 for a boat with a bad motor and stopped payment, or the dad that broke up two teens fighting and ended up entangled in the fight defending himself???? The lady that ran her sprinkler during a drought and the law said only to use them on Monday or FRidays???? SERIOUSLY a FELONY!! or the DUI guy that is your best friend and a shooter on your squad??? REALLY?? REALLY?? these guys should be on the same level as a rapist, bank robber and be judged by you "black and white" guys that are taking it as your responsibility to enforce there penalty??

I know the law is the law but we have a government/ president that will not even follow there own laws and yet they expect the people to hold to a higher standard. Putting low level crimes into "felony" seems like a back door way to dis-arm Americans. I just do not feel I want to help enforce that.

IMO, unless you are charged with real authority like a ATF or police you should stay out of it.

Seriously, how many snowesters have ever heard of a gun club? I didn't know such an institution even existed.

Surprised to hear that from you Mold. Do you live in a van down by the river?

I have buddies that I hunt with and have a fairly large collection of guns. I have lived in Idaho all my life and honestly can say that I have never even heard the phrase "gun club"?

Imagine that! A crooked car dealer.:face-icon-small-ton Black and white. If the law says because of his conviction he can not own or be in posession of a firearm then he probably should be asked to not be at the club with one. JMHO

From a conversation I had with a friend that is in law enforcement, you need to have a conversation with the gentleman.

Nebraska may be different, but in Minnesota a felony that does not involve the use of force does not immediately mean they will loose there firearm privileges.

Unless it's my own, private gun club... I have agreed to certain responsibilities as a board member of such an institution. It's not enforcing the law... it's abiding by my own word, to uphold the best interest of the club and all the others involved.

I'd have no problem shooting with the guy... somewhere else. I might even approach the board and discuss having the club approach the state governor or some other political authority on his behalf and see if anything can be done, in light of the actual crimes and the perps history of community contribution.

Regardless... I would honor my word and my obligation, first and foremost.
No judgement, no upholding of laws I may or may not agree with... simply doing my personal duty to keep the club open and available to all the others who are involved, directly or indirectly... as I agreed to do.

Yes... I know more than a few felons. Some family, some close friends. Some with their rights restored, others without a chance. In all cases I know personally... the punishment does not fit the crime, imo. I would make no exception for any of them, and they would not ask to put me in that position. My word is my bond, and I guard it jealously.

In many states it is illegal for a person with a history of mental illness to won a firearm. If you knew one of your members was mentally ill would you allow him to do whatever it is that one does at a gun club?

Problem with this is, how , where, when, and why, defines mental illness ??

It wont be long, if not already, that myself proclaiming obama a complete piece of $hit, could be considered "mental illness"... I might be completely "off my rockers", simply for having an disagreement with a therapist (just cause they THINK something different). Many of us have different "views/beliefs" than people that are supposed to be professionals. And that does NOT make us criminal. How can this line EVER be divided??? Answer: IT CANNOT. And that is the very reason wars take place.

Side against me and my beliefs all you want. Peoples opinions of me, mean nothing. Try to force your reasoning upon me, or punish me, and you'll be coyote bait.

See a therapist for anything, and you're flagged. Take a medication , you're flagged.

We all have switches/ choices in our heads that allow us to be civil or violent. And regardless of genes or lifestyle or habits, not one of us is a criminal, UNTIL we've COMMITTED a crime. Its impossible and completely unethical to punish
someone for something they haven't done.

The people that say they want mental illness dealt with to curb gun violence, are just looking for any reason to remove any firearms. They simply want firearms gone, at any expense, and mental illness is the most likely/wide range shot at this point.

Its not firearms, or any weapon. Its that civil/violent switch in any given brain that needs to be figured out, and that CANT be done yet. The hoplophobes know that, but they dont care. They're just scared of firearms, and trying to push whatever sounds good to meet that agenda.

Right there could be considered a mental illness. Someone forcing their reasoning on you and you would kill them? Reasoning is forced on people everyday. People deal with it. If you deal with it by wanting to turn them into coyote bait, then maybe you should not be allowed to own guns. Just sayin
