Knee Surgey

So I asked the question weeks ago if I should sell my sled because I tore up my knee on June 22nd. It was unanimous and I am keeping my 09 Dragon 800. Just an update. 7 days ago I had reconstructive surgery on my left knee. ACL was tore so the doctor graphed from my patellar tendon a new ACL, Fixed. My MCL was torn when I had the accident and I wore a special brace so it could heal on it's own but it didn't. So, the doctor made a second incision on the inside of my knee and reattached it with an anchor they use when they repair a rotator cuff. Cleaned up miniscus and some arthritis and closed me up. More pain the day after than I have ever had in my life. Much meds for seven days and we went to the follow up today. When he unwrapped my knee from all the gauze and the big brace there was much pleasure on the doctors face. Not much bleeding from the incisions at all. Two incisions about 6 inches long, I got sick and had to lay back for a minute when I saw this. he removed the stitches and checked the joint and he said it feels fantastic but I am not out of the woods yet. I start physical therapy tomorrow and I hear thats a beotch! I need to give a shout out to my wife of seventeen years. She sat with me the last week waiting on my every need. She set an alarm and gave me something to eat and my meds every four hours. Got me up, got me down, settled, iced, everything. She is an awesome woman! So my goal is to be in better shape than ever and ride when we can in January. Thanks for reading and any experiences any of you may have had with this similar injury would be a good read.

Skippy.

I have had 2 full reconstrructions (one on each knee) they are not fun. do as much physio as you can, and if the doc did a good job they will be better than new.:beer;

I tore my new all up on the christmas of 07. Tore my ACL right in half, tore my MCL wich healed on its own. Had a buckethandle tear in my miniscus. And also broke a very small peice of bone off of my tibea which just heals on its own. I ended up having surgery just on my miniscus in January of 08 and am still waiting to have my ACL reconstructed due to i am still growing and they dont want to stunn my growth in my leg. I am doing just about everything i did with my ACL then i am now without one. I just have to wear a brace when sledding, wakeboarding, dirtbiking, that kinda stuff.

Glad to hear your surgery went well!:beer;

I had the exact same surgery on same knee 2 years ago. I am 41 years old and still ride like I am 30. The surgery was a huge help to getting me back to where I felt I could do the big drops again. BUT! it took right at the 2 years to feel this way. There was a point prior I felt like I would of been better off letting it be. Keep your chin up cause it will take a while to recover. FYI, best thing was that cooler and ice pack setup...couldnt of done it without it:beer;:beer;

x3 on the cryo cuff they are awesome. Two shoulder recon structions and a knee and they were my best freind!

OWCH! Good on ya Knees suck I have had 5 knee surgeries and Im only 24 including a knee cap I shattered racing mx so I feel your pain. hope you get on your sled soon.:beer;

knees

I couldn't really work or move for a long time and then I got a bicycle and started a little each day and wow was all I could say.
Best treatment and slowly worked it up each day for a couple of months and has been good ever since. If it starts to hurt and I go pedal a little real easy and it goes away.
Only take a few days to get alot better with the easy motion and not alot of pressure on it. Hope you get healed up.

Have done both knees too(right miniscus, MCL, Left joint popped tearing all tendons) and still fell some irritation in them after a day of HARD riding. Cryo and physical training is good suff. Slow spinning on a bike and walking in a pool will do you good, but take your time and don't rush it.
Good luck man:beer;

X2!!!! Mine are better than new..... I hope you have a good recovery.

Blown out knees hurt for a long time, been there.

My only advice is, Go to Physio and take it seriously.
I didn't finish mine because it hurt a lot and I sucked out.

Now 15 years later, my knee is up for replacement in the near future.... fawk.

took out my left acl at 26 and did nothing, took out the right at 35 and had it reconstructed with hamstring tendon. Wish I had the left one fixed when it happened!! I took the therapy serious and was back to being good after about 6 weeks, at about a year I was feeling confident in it and hitting it hard.

The worst part for me was mishearing the doc at checkout, when he said take 2 of the percoset and 2 of the vicodin every 4hrs...when he really said either or.....I was slobbering on myself for 3 days and told him the pills were too much and he said, "EITHER-OR"!!! then it was fine. My wife told me it was the beer I was having with them, but I didn't think so....:eek::D

Good on ya for giving your lady props for her support!!:beer;:beer;:beer;:D

I've had two myself and as posted above, the bike and pool are excellent for PT. I could not believe the difference on the days I did not ride the bike, more pain and way stiff. I got the exercises from the therapist and did them on my own. Saved a bunch of money. Took me close to two years but I'm real close to 100%. I still use the bike when it gets stiff.

My wife was great too, All I remember from the first four post-op days was her waking me up and giving me food and pills. :D Be careful with the Norco, real easy to get hooked on.
