Knee Protection

I really like these. I won't ride without them! $15-20

Times whatever it is up to now!

I wear just like those only Thor and they aren't restrictive at all. Warm maybe but once you get used to them you only notice when you don't have them on. Taken a lot of hits on my bike in the woods and I am a believer. If you want I can send you pics of the knee shaped dent in my shrouds to prove they work.

Healthy knees are worth a LOT to me...I've tried a few different knee/shin guards over the years and these are what I have now and LOVE them. Fox Titan Pro. They come in adult and kids size.

Adjustable straps that clip on, so you don't have to slip into them.

I've been wearing the more basic Fox braces listed further up the thread for years but I like how these have some lower thigh protection for front dismounts and other mishaps. Time to buy new stuff I guess.

They are nice... but I'm really not a fan of the lace system...

I prefer to be able to take it off without removing my boots.

These are great! They have a fast-tec buckle on the side that releases the laces with 4 quick buckles! You set the laces and use the buckles to get them on and off without taking the boot off! You can see the buckle on the side of the one on the left of the screen.

I wore the 661 vegie wraps for two years, they are almost like a spandex material with padding on the knees. Very comfy.

This year I switched to the Troy Lee shock doctor knee and shin guards, they come in small and xs, which is awesome! I'm only 5'5", so one size fits all is not an option. They fit like a glove and I can't imagine riding without them.

Here's a couple more...

I used to wear Kyle straits but they were fatigueing on long days and always felt tight after about 3-4 hours, but very good protection. Not a fan of the pull-up design.

Now I use the Rap. They offer shin protection also and have straps that don't bind. More protection and more comfortable too.

Man it sucks guys are having to spend thousands to protect their knees. Whatever it takes to keep riding though! I understand that:)

I managed to shatter my knee cap and patella tendon on a sled last year...I wear HMK gear that is nice but has 0 knee protection compared to KLIM stuff. Ever since the injury, I've been wearing Fox launch low pro pads, which seem solid. Light weight and protects the knees.

I've got a friend that wears the 661 EVO's that are even better at about 100 per set.

Good luck...

Try the riding shorts sometime!!!!!!!:becky::becky: Amazing unless they changed when Shock Doc joined TLD. The Shock doc version are the best I'v eever worn.

For lighter knee protection, or injury prevention, a pair of volleyball knee pads work great. They won't wear through your snow pants, are cheap, and actualky provide a bit of side to side support also

Those are great...if you can keep them in place.

threadjacked...I know a few of my wrestlers starting wearing those bubble knee pads a few years ago....they work GREAT for sore knees....but they let kids have bad habits of wrestling on their knees.

Best thing to do is NOT allow knee pads at all so they get a little raw and build up callouses. That'll learn em to keep the knees off the mat. LOL

I don't see how something soft if gonna help as much against a hard object like the moto pads will.

Scott I can't believe I am passing on your post. That is prime stuff.

I suppose it really depends on how hard you are smacking your knees. Soft absorbs energy. Hard will work better for blunt hits, but really that doesn't happen much. Football players wear soft pads in their knees/legs. They don't need a hard pad there.
Plus they cost $20, you are not losing much if they don't work for you. Many of the options posted here are $150 up to $600.

The fox ones posted are like 20 bucks.

I dunno from my view my hard plastic ones do pretty good on easy or light hits as well.

CLOSING THE GATE AFTER THE HORSE IS OUT OF THE BARN

Here is my OPINION... based on years of experience in risky sports and watching many others have problems that could have been avoided.

Waiting till you have knee "joint problems" to wear a good quality brace in a risky sport is like "Closing the gate after the horse has run from the coral"

Most Pro MX Riders with HEALTHY KNEES wear good knee braces like the POD MX, CTi, and Asterisk braces. Pro/Jr Hockey Players with Healthy knees, Pro/College Football players with Healthy knees. PBR riders with Healthy knees... wear good knee braces, often with patella protection.

Have a look at some of the youtube vids of Carson Palmer of the Bengals getting "wrinkled" by Kemo VanOlfsen from a side hit to the knee. A brace would have protected his knee or at least minimized the damage (Kemo was a 300+ guy after all).

If you wait till you tear out your MCL/PCL/ACL etc in a sport that has high risk for those that are truly pushing and advanced riding... then you will be sorry...flat out sorry.

Now I'm not saying that a brace will protect you from all damage to the knee.. far from it...But they WILL protect you from huge amount of injuries that could have been avoided and ended your season soon or even a couple of years down the line. The good braces help to protect you from a lot of injuries like hyper-extension, ACl/PCL/MCL and patella injuries to name a few.

They are cheap protection when you put into perspective what the potential for injury is , the cost of the treatment, time off work and time away from the sport that you love.

Steph has said in other posts how she is looking fwd to "stepping up" and real progression in her jumping game... well... that my friends can introduce more risk to an already weakened knee... Bashing into the console/hoop, endo-ing, having the sled land on you etc etc...

I just hate to see a fellow sledder get hurt when good knee protection systems help greatly in keeping that from happening.
Stepping down from my soap box now.

Stay safe and enjoy the season.
