CLOSING THE GATE AFTER THE HORSE IS OUT OF THE BARN
Here is my OPINION... based on years of experience in risky sports and watching many others have problems that could have been avoided.
Waiting till you have knee "joint problems" to wear a good quality brace in a risky sport is like "Closing the gate after the horse has run from the coral"
Most Pro MX Riders with HEALTHY KNEES wear good knee braces like the POD MX, CTi, and Asterisk braces. Pro/Jr Hockey Players with Healthy knees, Pro/College Football players with Healthy knees. PBR riders with Healthy knees... wear good knee braces, often with patella protection.
Have a look at some of the youtube vids of Carson Palmer of the Bengals getting "wrinkled" by Kemo VanOlfsen from a side hit to the knee. A brace would have protected his knee or at least minimized the damage (Kemo was a 300+ guy after all).
If you wait till you tear out your MCL/PCL/ACL etc in a sport that has high risk for those that are truly pushing and advanced riding... then you will be sorry...flat out sorry.
Now I'm not saying that a brace will protect you from all damage to the knee.. far from it...But they WILL protect you from huge amount of injuries that could have been avoided and ended your season soon or even a couple of years down the line. The good braces help to protect you from a lot of injuries like hyper-extension, ACl/PCL/MCL and patella injuries to name a few.
They are cheap protection when you put into perspective what the potential for injury is , the cost of the treatment, time off work and time away from the sport that you love.
Steph has said in other posts how she is looking fwd to "stepping up" and real progression in her jumping game... well... that my friends can introduce more risk to an already weakened knee... Bashing into the console/hoop, endo-ing, having the sled land on you etc etc...
I just hate to see a fellow sledder get hurt when good knee protection systems help greatly in keeping that from happening.
Stepping down from my soap box now.
Stay safe and enjoy the season.
